On Jan 11, 2013, two Portathons were to be held simultaneously and virtually. RIM has extended its invitation to mobile app makers across many platforms. One Portathon is specifically for Android app developers and the other for platforms, such as Appcelerator, Maramalade, Sencha, jQuery, PhoneGap and Qt.

Can someone confirm the total now??? I have heard 70,000 (i think this is the number frank has been saying)........100,000.....110,000......120,000... .......now the number is +8200 atleast.

RIM won't confirm anything at the moment, if this makes it to 10,000 or more apps we will have 80,000 altogether (that we currently know about).
I think RIM is trying to surprise us at the launch event, right now I THINK we are up to 110,000 apps (or more).
Also guys, remember the event still has 9 hours or more left.
That is plenty of time for more apps!

Yea and there is still over two weeks until launch. If they continue on this path they will easily hit 100k at launch.

I hear 135,000 apps

Time will tell. When the CMO said 70,000 he meant native apps. Not counting all the apps you can port from: iOS, WebOS, Android, QT, QML, HTML5, Air/Flash

When the cmo said 70000 apps, did he mean already submitted apps or is that their realistic goal.
After they approve all the 12k and more of today, that number will go way higher. I really like the rim exec. team . Alec saunders sure knows what hes doing.

15000 is a great amount of apps. The only thing is that the majority of them are probably android ports. FUN FACT: RIM has to pay out 1 500 000 dollars to developers for this one portathon.
