I kind of want to start getting used the idea of a virtual keyboard for when L comes out. I had a 9800 briefly (About 6 months) and occasionally used the on-screen keyboard, but, eh, maybe I'm just fishing for excuses. Any opinions?

Whatever floats your boat. Virtual keyboards are getting better, and the Torch is a nice little package. I tried one, and was sufficiently pleased enough with the experience that I warmed up to running a touchscreen device.

Fair enough. Perhaps I'll go for it. Gosh I'm bad!

You obviously have the means or you wouldn't even be considering it. So, go for it. I had a 9930 porior to my 9850 and I really enjoy both devices.

On a side note: I have also started my BB10 training by merging all of my notifications including Facebook and Twitter into the Universal Inbox (ala Hub) and have hidden all the app icons to make me get used to having everything in one place (BBM and SMS are both hidden in folders). I have actually been loving not having so many icons on my screen and one place for everything.

I wouldn't...had it and it had back key issues, search the forums or Google it. The keyboard is also not very good. I now own a Galaxy Nexus and not looking back.
    Good luck.

I say go for it. It's a very underrated device imo. I have a 9850 also and it's a very good device and have never had any issues. I also have no problems with the virtual keyboard. Not to mention it takes great photos! Good luck on your choice.

If you're able to go for it, I say do it. I think you'll like it, especially if you like some of the touch screen stuff on your 9900. FWIW, I got mine for $100 factory refurb. (vzw contract renewal), and I've had mine for 10 months, and haven't had any of the back button/track-pad issues.

Why not.... go for it! It took some getting used to, but I'm a pro at typing on my 9850 now. Portrait keyboard could be better, but I've even mastered that one as well... just takes some practice. I had it down after a few weeks. At one point I felt like I couldn't live without a physical keyboard, but the 9850 has changed my way of thinking!

I dood it! We'll see if I'm going to hate myself next week. It's not like I don't have the 9930 to fall back on.

I can guarantee the London will have a superior virtual kb compared to the 9850/60. I don't think the two can be compared fairly. I also don't think you'll learn much with the 9850. I'd wait for the London. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my 9850 but I'm salivating for the London big time!

Not.looking.back. Yet, you're here, on a BlackBerry forum, in the very forum you're not looking back at? Really? Besides a peeling clear coat on my back button, mine functions perfectly.

Yes, 9850/60 group are very "focused" compared to the 9900/30 group, if you know what I mean...

I've also started doing that. Looks like I'll have my phone by the end of the week.

Just an update for anyone who cares. I had it for about 3 weeks before going back to the 9930 -- the screen and camera was nice on the 9850, but alas, I found typing to be sort of a PITA when in portrait mode. Rocking the 9930 once again.
