I just got a new blackberry 9930 and it's from Sprint, it's GSM and unlocked but I wanted to activate it with another company, not Sprint and they told me that it's not possible to activate it with another company, it has to be with sprint and with a contract. So I called the store and they told me that it is possible to activate it with any other company so at this point I don't know who is telling the truth and unfortunately it's a nonrefundable item so I don't really know what to do, does anybody knows something about this?

The sim card slot needs to be unlocked and it can be activated on a gsm network, however, it won't have 3g capabilities as it lacks the proper bands...Hope this helps

On what carrier and in what country are you trying to activate the device?
Also, are your trying to get BlackBerry data features (BBM, email, browser, Facebook, etc) working?

Firts Sprint is a CDMA company.. meaning it doesnt take SIM cards. the difference between 9900 and 9930 is that the 9900 takes SIM cards where as a 9930 is CDMA (No SIM card).

If it's unlocked then you should be able to use the 9930 on a CDMA network but I doubt you'll be able to get 3G because of the different radio frequencies your country is running for cell phones the might might be EDGE or so.

    Sorry, but you are misinformed.

Yes, Sprint uses CDMA, however, the 9930 is a World Phone. It has GSM frequencies as well as CDMA frequencies. It does, in fact, have a SIM card slot and can, in fact, be used on GSM networks. But no 3G.

I have a Sprint 9930, I live in Venezuela and I enjoy my 3G service, it's depends on your providers frequencies for 3G. My phone (and all sprint's 9930) has the 1 and 8 bands for 3G.

Yea Giovanni.... Please check your facts before you start posting .. I am also an owner of a 9930 and I am IN FACT looking at my device and its INCLUDED SIM CARD. As for the OP, You can unlock to work on GSM bands But unfortunately the frequencies will decided your data speeds..

Believe it or not, the gsm side for the 9930 from Sprint is already unlocked. Shouldn't have any problems, but you do have to activate phone on Sprint 1St, to get it to work period.

Damn, No need to get hostile... MOST sprint phones dont have a SIM card slot (if they do they arent user accessable), didnt realize that they would be different in Blackberry phones. Jeez no need to be an a***.
