After a quick search, I found a few older threads asking about doing hangouts on the PB. Does this fall into the same category as Skype...or is there a better chance of getting it to work via an Android app?

The windows version requires you to install a plugin, so you're more likely to get the Android version working.

I don't know how well this would work on the PB, considering how slow its browser can be, but I can use the browser in BB10.

Start web browser and go to hangouts.google.com and then you'll have to login from there.
