So my friend wants a 9930 after she used her sisters. She's on Sprint and she wants it in white. If anyone could point me in the right direction for getting one that'd be great!

sprint doesnt offer a white 9930 unfortunately. Your only option would be to switch teh bezel yourself

Unlocking only allows one to use a device on any GSM network.

Sprint is a CDMA carrier. The 9930 is a "world phone" that includes a SIM card for use overseas in countries that do not have CDMA networks. The SIM card could be completely removed from the 9930 and still work on Sprint's network.

CDMA carriers, such as Sprint, keep a database of all ESN's with their own branding. They will not activate devices from other carriers, such as VZW, at all.

If Sprint is one's carrier, then the device must have Sprint's branding in order to use it. Since there are no white 9930s sold by Sprint, the only option is to purchase a black Sprint 9930 and change the housing.

Yeah, it really sucks that they didn't make a 9930 in white. Makes no sense, and there is no real reason why they couldn't have

White plastics get discolored/stained easily. RiM probably doesn't want to deal with customer complaints over that.

So there must be TONS of iPhone, Samsung, and HTC complaints out there.

I highly doubt that is the reason. Plus, you take that risk when buying a white phone. Just like buying a white car.

Its just RIM being complicated again. Makes no sense for just 9900's to be white and not 9930's. They are pretty much the same phones.

The carriers order and distribute the phones. Sprint made a decision not to have RIM produce any white 9930s for them. Take a deep breath, relax, and buy the parts to switch it if it's that important.
