So I wrecked a friend's phone and I need some help.
- I knocked her in a pool with her phone in her pocket. Oops.
I'm pretty sure it was a bold 9780, or it might have been 9700. I'm not really sure and she isn't exactly talking to me right now.
I found a reasonably priced 9700 on ebay and I want to buy it for her, I'm just curious as to how that would work on her plan.
She's with Rogers, and the phone on ebay is registered to Rogers so that should all work out, but is there any hassle to switching phones on her plan?
Will it make a difference if she's switching from 9780 to a 9700?07-22-12 12:27 PMLike 0 - The 9780 has a better camera and more memory. Also some 9700s are on OS5 instead of the OS6 on the 9780.07-22-12 12:46 PMLike 0
- Shouldn't be a problem, both phones are on Rogers and they're both BlackBerries so it'd just be a matter of taking the SIM out of the waterlogged phone and putting it into the other phone. Of course she'll have to reinstall any of the apps she had, but that won't be an issue. As for OS, both the 9700 and the 9780 can run OS 6, so that shouldn't be an issue either.07-22-12 01:05 PMLike 0
- The 9700 can run OS6, but for the reasons TA mentioned, it's a downgrade from the 9780. Theoretically speaking, if you buy a phone branded to the same carrier, you should have the least number of problems.
Before buying, you want to make sure the phone isn't hot. If it has been blacklisted, she won't be able to use it properly. A quick way to test would be to BBM the listed phone. If it gets delivered and replied to, chances are, it's legit.07-22-12 01:06 PMLike 0 - Shouldn't be a problem, both phones are on Rogers and they're both BlackBerries so it'd just be a matter of taking the SIM out of the waterlogged phone and putting it into the other phone. The 9780 also has a better camera (5 MP) than the 9700 (3.15 MP).
A new SIM will also need to be obtained from Rogers. The water damaged SIM will not work.andy957 likes this.07-22-12 01:15 PMLike 1 - I had a Bold 9700 before and the experience isn't that great, because of the 256MB of RAM the OS6 doesn't run as fast as it should and also web browsing is painful. When you're loading most of full websites when it is about to finish loading it pops up with a message: Sorry! Page is too large to load! again because of the lack of RAM.
I really recommend you to buy at least the 9780 if it is the BlackBerry she had, because the experience with 9700 after having the 9780 will be cumbersome and bad for her.
If you're out of money, well buy the 9700. I hope I helped you.07-22-12 01:22 PMLike 0 - If you don't know which her phone is, look underneath the battery for the name of the model.
And I assume you have already tried the rice trick? Take out battery, leave phone in rice for a number of days, this should dry it out.07-23-12 01:57 PMLike 0 - I'll guess he can't check which model! My guess would be, the phone is with her and he's not allowed access to it..07-29-12 11:42 AMLike 0
