I bought a sandisk 4gb sd card just like the one ppl are saying that it works with the pearl but I tried everything and it still wont work. I did update to that .107 OS and it still just won't detect a media card. It says there is none inserted.
Sounds like your card reader in your device is bad, maybe try a diff card to see if it can read that...also let it be known that while RIM will state the cards are supported, they also suggest that NOT all cards will be fully supported, a quick peek into the RIM knowledge base gives this info..
A microSD media card is a small, removable flash memory data storage device. When inserted into a BlackBerry smartphone, it can extend the memory available for storing media files such as videos, ring tones, pictures, or songs. The media card is sold separately from the BlackBerry smartphone.
Currently, BlackBerry smartphones support media cards with up to 8GB of memory. MicroSD media cards with 4GB and 8GB of memory require BlackBerry smartphones running BlackBerry Device Software 4.3 or later.
Any luck? Just got my 4gb sandisk today and yep its worthless so far!! I tried reading the card with both of my laptops (xp and vista) and they won't even recognized the card. I've also gone through all the same motions as you, tried a new desktop manager, etc. and this card is simply not usable at this time.
Latest and greatest, I switched to a 2gb Sandisk and it worked instantly with no inputs on my part. I don't think my 4gb was legit and I'm working with the vendor and amazon to return it or get a replacement.
If all else fails, have you tried wiping the new card on your pc and then copying the original folder structure over exactly from your original card that came in the pearl ?
Also make sure the card has the same name as the original (blackberry). Rename it on your pc in My Computer if necessary.
I set mine up on the pc first before putting it in the BB.
Not all cards come formatted for plug and play for all phones and I suspect the BB will be looking for the folder structure - music, ringtones etc. Also the card having the correct name may be significant.
(Mine is not a 4GB card and I am on OS 4.2 but if your OS supports a 4GB card then the formatting may be the other thing to look at; just a suggestion that might be worth a try)
I Bought the card, I put it in my blackberry and it wasn't working. I tried plugging it in the comp with the adapter, it detects the removable drive but I can't read it; says "Insert disk in H:/ or whatever... this thing cost me 80$ and i can't return it
It's a sandisk btw and its been proven to work with the model i have.... and I doubt it's the card that's broken or anything... what are the chances of that? like 0.0001%? theres gotta be something totally stupid goin on
I just got a 4gb for my 8830. My computer reads the card (vista btw) and I was able to transfer music to the card, however if I choose to transfer over say 20 media files at once, my blackberry crashes and the data transfer process gets mucked up.
However it does copy over some songs good and I am able to play them using the media player however after only a couple songs, it stops playing music. Media player says error, also said 'media processor busy' and I checked the media card under options, it said it could not read the media card, odd?
So right now I am running 4.2v.
My options:
1. Return the card to TigerDirect and get a 2GB instead
2. Upgrade the ROM on my blackberry to 4.3v (How do I do this?)
My Blackberry 8830 would not recognize the media card that I installed either. I called Blackberry helpline and after they checked out the settings, etc. with me over the phone, I was told to remove and reinsert the battery. This immediately solved the problem. Try that.
