    Here is an app idea for you dev's for the playbook, and probably BB10...

    Of course we all love the swipe gesture, but it sucks when my daughter is watching a video or using a drawing app.

    So the idea would be to turn the app on when watching a video so it turns off the gestures, then when you want to access the controls, you swipe in from the bottom right corner or something like that.

    Such an app would indeed be useful. Unfortunately RIM has not exposed APIs available to third-party developers that allow us to intercept bezel swipes and prevent the default actions from happening. There was a thread a while back about someone prototyping some unofficial methods of stopping an app from responding to swipes but I don't believe there is a solution to the problem of turning off events on a system-wide basis.
