That's what I do. In fact I just picked up a mint condition 9930 off of a forum member here. That will be my first choice from here on. If the BB10 devices are awesome when they drop I will probably have to buy one at retail on Verizon.

    Yes sir.

I pity my sister who is paying $120 a month on a 2 year contract (Free iPhone 4S)

Didnt with my bold got it for .01, but I have before and think I will from here on out. Having the phone free and clear makes swaping phones to the latest and greatest a little easier in my opinion. Have sold all types of phones on craigslist and sure some have sold faster then others but you get a good amount of your money back to go to a new phone and the freedom to go to another carrier if you are unhappy with the service or want a carrier specific phone

Whether I get a subsidized phone or not, my monthly bill is the same.

If you are going to stay with the same carrier then why not? At VERIZON the plan pricing doesn't change if you don't sign a contract so with the device discount its a better deal.

I've always signed 2-year contracts with Verizon but depending on them pushing their tiered data I may just go month to month and buy used devices.

At this point I believe all unlimited data will go away even prepaid unlimited is not truely unlimited.

NO, I don't like two year contracts, but let me do the math....Sprint Bold 9930 on sale for $99 and my monthly bill stays the same for two years (gotta have service for phone to work) or $649 without a contract and monthly bill still the same for two years or more if I decide to go to another carrier. Hummm, if I purchased a phone every six months or constantly switch carriers I could see how this would benefit me.....but I don't buy a phone every six months or switch carriers, so buying a phone at retail wouldn't benefit ME

My Carrier still thinks I have and use the 9800...
I just had to buy the 9810 for the faster OS... then got the 9900 for a such a good price that I just couldn't pass up...

I change phones like women change purses...

    I hate it.
Especially when phone companies know better phones will come out a few months to a year later.
Life would be SO much easier (for Sprint, because that's what I have lol) If they did
1 year contracts with the $150 upgrade credit instead of two years. Right now 1 year only gives you $75 off. They should do 6 months - $75 off & 1 year = $150 off.

I wasted my upgrade last year with the Evo (womp ) so I'm not eligible
until May 2013. Hopefully by then they have different BB10 devices, because the BB London doesn't appeal to me. (That's assuming that that will be the 1st one to come out)
Hopefully a physical Keyboard one by May 2013

I think the carriers should work out a deal with each other and allow their customers to switch carrier if there's reasonable belief that service degradation and non-performance are obvious. So if a customer leaves Verizon for ATT, and another leaves ATT for Verizon, it'd be an even switch.

I hated it on sprint because switching phones involved calls and swapping msid's etc.... Now I'm on att and its just a sim swap away.

I don't mind signing a 2yr deal because my monthly is the same either way. So why not save the $500 and take a small vacation. Or pay a part of my rent. Lol

Don't like it, but I will always take a rebate over paying full price. If I like the service provider and have no intention of leaving... Why not?

Three year contracts??? Ouch! That's just painful.

I do 2 year contracts with Verizon. Been with them for 10+ years. No biggie.

yup with $6.95 'service fees' or $2.35 'Government Recovery Fees' depending on when you signed up... price increases (almost $1 extra) for caller display every yr as well. So when you guys complain about 2 yr contracts, we WISH we were back to those days. our carriers got smart.. they lock us up for 3 yrs first before we can talk gdprice for upgrades
