when i try to activate the hotspot feature on my bold 9900 with at&t it says my account is not active to use it. Is there any sort of work around this problem? It would be very useful?
Thanks
Installed .402 on a ATT device, is the only way to get hotspot working to add a tethering service?
I enabled a tethering plan on the phone and still doesn't work, I wonder it there is a special hotspot feature
Oh please. Really? What part of "go away you can't have any" would be made more enlightening by knowing the words ATT put into the rep's script?
LOL! Really. AT&T sucks. The only reason I'm still there is because I'm a sucker for premature upgrades and find myself suckered into another 2 year contract. Just install .267 and enjoy both mobile hotspot and NFC which AT&T prefers not to offer us.
Why not just run 267? Seriously. What exactly, to the feature, is gained with a different number at the end of the OS version?
Because .267 has an audio drop in calls issue on AT&T.... (at least this is the case on my 9900, some other builds like .391 don't have the audio issue- but disable hotspot). AT&T will clearly be the LAST carrier to release a 7.1 version.

i installed .267 to get hotspot and was very disappointed to get the "you need a tether plan" msg. I gave up on it for a long time.
Recently, i traveled to italy and was playing with the apn settings to get internet/BIS to work with Vodafone.IT, i finally settled on blackberry.net
I am now home, and was reading this thread, saw the mention of .267 working with tethering. I pressed alt+shift+h to see my version and saw .267. said to myself "yea right, works for everyone but me...". Dont know why, but i tried to turn the hotspot on, and it WORKED!
For those who cant get it to work on .267 try changing your apn to blackberry.net
also, anyone on a different version try the same thing and report back please

I haven't had any audio issues on my AT&T 9900 running .267 but I did a fresh install and started from scratch. Actually I have not noticed any bugs at all and it is running perfectly. I wouldn't wait for AT&T's official release because they would try to to find a way to remove hotspot and NFC anyway. In fact, if AT&T releases their own version of 7.1, I wouldn't even download it. I am using .267 for Telus download and I am extremely happy. For anybody experiencing audio drops try a fresh install and see if it helps.

Nothing special here either. Just installed .267 and it works. I also will only use this build for the hotspot feature alone. Try a clean install and start from scratch. That should do it.
I am not with AT&T, I'm with Orange Mobile Egypt (Mobinil) and the HotSpot feature on my 9900 worked just fine from the first try. I'm guessing it's a network issue with AT&T. I assume you already know that, but tethering actually costs a lot of money so I guess you should contact AT&T about it before actually using it.
