Ok I don't know if I'm going to explain this right but:
A recent and frequent thing is happening with my SMS. I am using a 9900 on AT&T and I have had it for about 4 months FLAWLESSLY.
I am using the native SMS app not a third party app.
About a week ago when I opened the SMS icon I would have several (3 to 5) contacts listed as if there was a message there from them. All are separated by date. When I click on them they are blank.
The (really) odd part is that they are in the list separated under specific dates.
So it looks like the normal list with messages separated into dates received. And under the date separator is the contact's name.
I click on the name and a blank message pops up.
I can delete them either by doing the whole delete prior thing or individually and they are gone. But then (seemingly randomly) they return. Maybe same day maybe a day or so later.
I contacted the "contact" asking if they sent something and none had.
I have a similar issue on my 9930. Every time I do a reset on my device, I can guarantee that one contact will be listed in my SMS folder with no messages in the thread. I've gone digging into my saved messages, other files and there's nothing. I would imagine that it's an OS glitch. I haven't thought to look at the date listed for the message, I'll have to check that out.
OP, is the little message icon green? I have Vlingo, and whenever I send an sms via Vlingo, however it works, after it sends, i open up my text messages, and each sms that I sent via vlingo, there is a blank "draft" sms for that contact...not sure if that is what you're seeing or not...
It may be an issue with 7.0. I'm not sure. Maybe try an upgrade to .342. Make sure it's for 9900 and also I'm sure someone here can chime in. Good luck.
Have you tried resending your service books? Options/Device/Advanced System Settings/Host Routing Table/Menu/Register Now. If successful you will receive confirmation emails and your sms should work fine.
I would suggest you to try what albee 1 is saying.. it can be related to the service books and if it won't help then try to remove the app and restart your device and then install it back

Ok.... So I did this and received an email immediately saying that my;
"handheld has been registered with the wireless network."
I presume that's a good thing.
But wasn't it so prior? Or did I just hit a glitch somewhere along the line and lost that registration?
I have had this happen several times, you need to go to your sms, then to saved messages,then choose view folder and you will find this text somewhere in one of those folders, probrably sms in or out box, then delete the message. Otherwise everytime you do a device reboot it will appear again. It is caused by a accidental send or incompletion of a message.
