Just bought an iPad2 after comparing the two. My reasons were the iPad3 is thicker, heavier, and hotter. I am satisfied with the iPad 2's display and camera as they are. I also saved a $150 with the 32GB version.
If a 2 fits what you need, go for it. You can definitely get good deals on them. All of the increases in app/file sizes are universal though, regardless if you get a 2 or 3. If you're going to be giving up the space for the larger files anyway, you might as well reap the benefits. (i.e. better screen and camera)
The change in weight/thickness is marginal. It gets warm, but nothing at an alarming rate that I've noticed.
To me, going from a 2 to a 3 is unnecessary... although that's exactly what I did. If I'm getting my first one, though, I'd go for the 3.
I bought an iPad2 immediately after the 3 was announced. I got it for $200 off retail price on sale from Apple. I'd save the cash and get a refurb iPad2.
If money is no object, the 3 is a no brainer. If it's your first ipad, and you want to save a few bucks and have not seen the 3, you will be happy with the 2.
I use my iPad everyday. I went to buy the new one, put the 2 next to the new ipad and I couldn't justify the expense. Yes the new one is better but not that much. Also weight & size are important to me, I carry mine everyday.
iPad 2 is a better value. iPad 3 is more expensive, heavier hotter and newer. The display when the two are side by side is noticeably better on the 3. If heavier, hotter and more expensive is a nonissue then the 3 is the way to go.
Its a tough choice. I would just say how much money are you willing to spend? The ipad 2 is just as good and cheaper. Ipad 3 has a better screen and better camera. Thats about it.
The new iPad 2's have a better battery than the 2 refurbs, so keep that in mind. After the 3 was announced, Apple went back and improved the 2's battery. No announcement or anything, just taking care of loyal customers.
Depends on what you want to do. If you need more horsepower and want a high res display than go iPad 3. if you are browsing the web, sending email, and occasionally watching a movie, then iPad 2 will probably be fine for you.
