Very interesting analysis. Depending on how you value the patent portfolio, RIM is trading around its book value at liquidation today. But what's new and interesting is this analyst's valuation of future cash flows. As a going concern it is worth much more than its stock price today. All the negative press has driven the price well below reasonable value. This article confirms what many people here have been saying for some time about unfair treatment in the media.

It's not just negative press. Investors expect RIM to continue on a downward trajectory, so the stock price reflects that trajectory. And they're correct because RIM can't start growing again until BB10 is released. So for the next 'X' months, RIM will be in decline.
By not offering quarterly guidance, RIM has made a statement to the market: "We expect to have declining revenues for the foreseeable future and we're not even sure by how much or for how long."

That's not negative press. That's the CEO of the company.

I simply do not see the "unfair treatment" .. Has RIMM been lambasted? yes of course.. did they deserve it? most certainly.

Did you guys read the article? This is the whole problem, people are repeating things they hear without checking the facts.

    From the article:
Thus the company experienced growth in segments representing 70% of its revenue base last year - this is very different from the story that is being told in the press.
RIM IS growing. No, they DIDN'T deserve being lambasted.

RIM shares are badly undervalued. The price has been drive down well below what they "deserve".

I mostly agree with that, but I'm a bit more optimistic for RIM's immediate prospects.

OS7 is still a good mobile OS. If we weren't facing a new OS this fall, it would likely be competitive. If RIM can bring in a real genius as CMO, maybe they can pick up a strategy that will keep OS7 a going concern.

That's a fairly big "if", but even at that, the company's ASSETS are worth considerably more than its market cap right now. Yes, it still seems odd.
