This night for six hours my battery lost 1% in standby with wifi enabled.
Battery health can be controlled - there are a lot of posts here how to do this. 89% are not to bad. Do you have sideloaded applications on pb-some of them may still run on background.
Have you read any of the other threads on this. That is a high drain rate. Use the search function and read some of the threads dealing with this. Most have some checks for you to make sure it's not some app settings issues. Then check back. There are many that will be willing to help. I would also read through the Newbie Tips and Tricks sticky, if you already haven't.
I am also new to the Playbook. But i had a similar issue this weekend.
My playbook was loosing power on Idle without Wifi about 5% per hour.
I did a restart and discharged the battery until it shut down itself. At some point it was reporting 0% Battery but it went on for 40 minutes playing the hidef movie in loop mode and wifi on. After it turned off i did a full recharge with the power adapter(important do not use the USB cable) i left it to load and after i came home after ~5-6 hours it was charged. After that i didn`t have any issue, my Playbook lost 2 % in 4 hours today on idle and with Battery Guru running, i recommend that app if you want to troubleshoot your Playbook.
There is a known bug that bit me. If you set email sych to manual, it uses battery at an unnatural rate. Tap the gear, tap Accounts, tap your email account, tap Advanced Settings scroll down and make sure Push is ON.
I also have a fast battery drain. RIM support basically told me to turn off the playbook but what a pain to wait for it to restart. Turning on push email sounds counterintuitive but I'll switch from manual and report back if this slows down the drain.
How-to increase battery-life
- leave your PB always ON !
- recharge only when <10
- don't use your PB for about 2 days (with wifi off, but the pb on) will increase your battery-life with 1%-5%
