Hey so this is just a general discussion about the BBOS...with BB10 getting most of the efforts from RIM, it has been stated they will continue support for BBOS...so does this mean just bug fixes? or will RIM be releasing OS8?

Nope OS7 will still be supported. And all eyes on BB10. But no BB OS8.

I wonder why they skipped from OS7 to BB10 anyway, lol.

The roadmap is posted on BGR.com. If the roadmap can be believed, there will not be OS 8. OS 7.1 and all the devices that run it are dead products.

so basically it will be just bug fixes since you said that os7 will still be supported but no os8...They really do need to release 7.2 or something a little more than just leaving it to die...I understand they are putting all efforts on bb10, but there are 75 millions BB users out there now who will not upgrade instantly and they can not leave these people out to dry!

i believe they will release minor updates to BB7.x users that mainly focus on bug fixes and performance improvements. I cant see anything drastic being introduced but maybe a new feature here and there will come.
Its understandable that RIM wants to focus purely on BB10 as they know its a last attempt at staying afloat.

They jumped from OS 7 to OS 10 because RIM was forced to move away from the name BBX due to issues with another company. I think the reason why RIM chose BB 10 instead of BB 8 because it will set the new line apart from the old Java OS on OS 5, 6 and 7. While OS 6/7 is a huge improvement compared to OS 5, the OS 10 is entirely different.

I don't think there will be OS 8 or 9 because the whole point of OS 10 is to set it apart from the old OS versions. Too bad this could be confusing for people who are new to the BlackBerry world.

How are we being left out to dry? It's not like BB7 and older OS devices are going to just stop working when BB10 finally drops. Bug fixes are perfectly adequate for these going forward. No different than support for BB5 and 6 when BB7 was released.

here's one way to look at it... BB9900/9930 and all OS 7/7.1 devices, then the PB os version 1 (BB8) PB OS Version 2 (BB9) and PB Version 3 (BB10) along with the phones on BB10. So the PB version 1 was the first step away from the Java and into QNX

Hm, that's an interesting way to look at it.

it may not be true at all, but if you look at the actual footprints, to me anyways, it makes sense. Since the PB is the first BB os away from Java...
