- I just had a run through of the Android/google mix that a friend has for his Asus tablet. Wow is all i can say. They way its integrated to his google stuff with marketplace blah blah. Then i thought about my Blackberry Desktop Manager. yeeeahhh ... all i can say is BB DM feels like about 5 years ago. I do love the playbook OS on the tablet. I think its more user friendly and sexier than honeycomb.
I hope it gets better is all i can say.04-24-12 03:21 PMLike 0 - You may be disappointed then in the next DM(v7) ; especially with the Playbook in mind. I am hoping that RIM lights a fire under the software people working on DM7 but at this time I am not hopeful as they are already asking beta testers if the software is ready for full release. I am NOT of the mind it is. It needs to be FIXED on many levels re the Playbook (works great for phones mind you).bbfan1040 likes this.04-24-12 03:49 PMLike 1
- actually, the old Palm Pilots & Treo had a fantastic sync system, drop it in the cradle, hit sync, and in under a minute, your PIM info was synched and you were ready to go. Backups took longer, but for the most part, were painless. You could approve individual additions and deletions, it was a fairly transparent background app that didn't take up much room at all...
The BB Desktop Manager system is slow, clumsy, bloated and doesn't sync effectively ...
# 1 gripe: Why does it show me the additions and deletions to my calendar and insist I accept or reject ALL the changes... rather than allow me to make exceptions?!??!
Love the Playbook, Love my Torch 9810... loathe Desktop Manager. I file transfer without it as much as possible.El Cid and Uncle Remus like this.04-24-12 04:08 PMLike 2 - ChrisySeeker of the WayI'd like to see Desktop Manager get a major overhaul.
Allow contacts to be viewed, deleted, added and edited via DM.
Same with calendar. Add a calendar on there.
Make DM OTA sync or at least BT.
Allow us to backup apps.
Allow us to view our BlackBerry.net email via DM as well.
Allow notes and tasks to be editable in DM.04-24-12 04:12 PMLike 2 - I'd like to see Desktop Manager get a major overhaul.

Copying files to or from my PB is usually done over wifi sharing (and seems to go faster than plugged in to a usb port, at least to me), and OS updates have been done OTA. So I've found that these days, I only use the DM software to backup my PB about once a month (just ran one yesterday). So ultimately, as long as the new version of the software will continue to be able to backup my PB, I'm pretty happy. (But then again, I'm pretty easy going, and it's obvious that the DM software needs more functionality for others, so I hope the changes you folks want, are included.)

If you look at itunes and the google/android marketplace/gmail/google desktop package its plain to see that BDM is ancient. I hope that this changes. I mean comon how many of us most likely use Itunes and google desktop/gmail etc more than BDM. Probably most of us!04-25-12 08:26 AMLike 0

- I have to agree. Its usefulness to me ends at backing up and, if necessary, restoring the backup. I don't find the rest of DM to be useful at all. Everything else seems easier to do by bypassing DM completely. In its current form, it should probably just be renamed to BB Backup lol.04-25-12 08:54 AMLike 0
- I'm new to BB and I find the DM very basic and just for backing up. I remember the Palm PDAs and it's desktop software (w/HotSync) which seem to have a lot more then BB's DM and how long ago was that! I hate to say this but I wish the Desktop Manager was I little like iTunes.04-25-12 09:08 PMLike 0
