    Hi,

I'm trying to use an unlocked T-Mobile Blackberry Torch 9810 on Digicel's 3G network. For some reason the phone will not detect 3G networks provided by either Digicel or Lime. It only detects the 2G version of both networks. I have the EDGE symbol in the top right hand corner of my screen. My old bold 9000 detects both 3G networks.

Does anyone know how I can solve this problem. I tried wiping the OS and reloading it but that did't work. BBSAK could not detect the digicel 7.0 OS I downloaded so I had to use BB Desktop Manager to reload the OS after wiping with BBSAK.

I can't think of anything else I can do.

    HELP

I have the phone set up to detect 4G/3G and 2G networks.

tmobile version of blackberry are aws version. they use a different antenna compare to like at&t. here in canada mobilicity and wind uses same antenna freq as tmobile. they would only work in 3g mode if you use it on tmobile or mobilicity and wind (here in canada) otherwise they will work on other network via edge.

    for more info

You are out of luck, the phone you bought does not work on the digicel network anywhere in the world. If you bought it, exchange it for an ATT version of the phone. Or quad-band phone.

From the looks of it further, digicel doesn't run a 3g network as of yet. So you cant use 3g anyways

For everyones information Digicel is a 3G network currently running the Claro network which they recently acquired, also they have started testing 4G to select users such as myself, where im currently experiencing "H+" on my mobile device.

As for the T-Mobile phones, since T-mobile is european it runs on
different 3G bands in this case bands 1,4,8 while North American carriers such as At&t,Roger etc run 3G on bands 1,2,5,6. Digicel's 3G runs on the 850Mhz frequency or band "5" which no T-mobile blackberries have, so therefore no t-mobile phone in Jamaica will experience data speeds faster than "EDGE"

If it is a T-Mobile device then read the above thread.

If it's AT&T or a local phone then check you have it set for 3G reception.

Unfortunately with a 9930 you are stuckon EDGE, a non-tmobile branded 9900 would be more suitable for Jamaica as I've since moved to a 9900 get "H+" just the same as my Torch,

The frequency bands on your Blackberry are not those that used by your carrier for 3G..
If you can switch to another unlocked Blackberry from a carrier that supports those bands (AT&T for example) you will get it solved. but, there is nothing you can do with this device, the hardware that you need with your sim card is other then what you have and your unlocked Blackberry Torch 9810 can only work with 2G data connection on some carriers, like the one you are using.
