No because it technically doesnt exist, you have to install a new version if you get An update.

I think it 'updates' when you side-load over the existing app.
I think that's what happens with official apps so I assume the same with Android apps.

TLS2000
To update Kindle I had to uninstall it and reinstall the update. Any other way I ended up getting two version of Kindle on the PlayBook.
This may be because the apps were signed by different people though.
