You should be able to run an 8Gb microSDHC just fine in a Bold... he11, you are supported up to 32Gb?? Right? *massive!*

As I understand, the HC stands for high capacity. What that means beyond the words, I don't know.

SDHC cards are High Capacity SD cards that are over 2 Gigabytes.

Technically, regular SD cards are over 2GB also, up to 4GB. The SDHC cards were made to allow for changes that would produce greater sizes of memory cards, theoretically all the way up to 2 Terrabytes. They are at 8GB on the market now, with 16GB coming soon, then 32GB to follow sometime after that.
