I've been trying to install different keyboards for the android player, but I can't seem to get them to work. They all appear to instaill fine through android market, but when i select them under settings, they get unchecked after i exit. Can't get the checkmark to stay selected. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

That isn't actually true. Android keyboard can't replace the PB keyboard outside of the Android player but I've been using an alternate keyboard inside since the first 2.0 developer's beta.
This has nothing to do with root though.
I converted Hacker's keyboard to a BAR then side-loaded it. When trying to activate it, it said I needed a permission that it couldn't elevate. I've got HCL, so I used that. In there I went into settings, Language & Keyboard and turned on the Hacker's keyboard. It's worked great ever since.
Again, can't replace the BB keyboard (my biggest rooting wish), but this does work.
