I got a blackberry playbook for christmas and I have a major problem with it. I started going through the initial set up. When I got to the part where its supposed to check for system updates. It says could not activate this tablet (3001) then some times it brings up a code 2012. I am trying to get this fixed.

    Please help!

My auggestion is to power down playbook. Connect to PC and it should bring the playbook to factory default and hopefully this will work. All I can think of.

You need to call Rim on that one or return it for another Playbook. There is a faq on that error code posted in a thread here. There are a couple causes, one being the Playbook serial/PIN was not input into their system before it was put into the distribution network.

Try rebooting your wif router and the PlayBook and see if you still get it.

If that fails, try the debrick method of installing a fresh OS. If that fails, either return it to the retailer or call Rim support.

To do the debrick, you need the Blackberry software on a PC, connect the PlayBook in a turned off state using the usb cord and with the Blackberry desktop software running. Turn on the Playbook and desktop software will ask if you want to let the Playbook boot or restore the OS. Choose restore os and follow the directions.

If you still get the 2012 error, the Playbook may not be registered on Rim's servers, or there is a hardware problem, or the Playbook has been reported lost or stolen and blocked from the servers.

You need to plug it in when it is shut off. Hold down the power button until it powers off, then try connecting it to the computer and turn it on while desktop manager is running.
