- Over the past few days I've dropped from about 10700 songs to about 8900. I've cleaned out about ten contacts but most of them had only a handful of songs each.
It looks like I no longer have access to the songs of a bunch of my contacts and that seems to be whats caused the drop. I'm assuming these contacts have not provided payment info and hence been transitioned from a BBMM Premium account to BBMM Basic, but this seems pretty dumb. Why would I want a BBMM Basic contact if I can't listen to their songs? If I'm paying $5/month to listen to my contacts music, I don't see why they have to pay too. All your playlists and your whole track list will be pretty unstable if you can lose 50 songs everytime someone drops off. And to top it off, its fairly hard to track down who these folks are amongst your hundreds of contacts so you can Delete them and replace them with someone who's music you can listen to.
Have I got the reasoning right here, or is there some other reason that I've lost access to some of my Contacts songs?12-04-11 12:54 PMLike 0 - I was wondering the same thing as I also noticed a huge drop in available songs in my Playlists.
I initially thought it was because others dropped me as a contact, but this isn't the case with most of the songs. For me, quite a few contacts songs now just show up with the Swap logo. If this is being caused by them not subscribing - then I can't see the service surviving more than a few months. I was pretty happy with the service up until this point. Losing the ability to play songs by non-premium users, shouldn't happen.
Like the OP asked, is this what is happening? Is this the way the service works?12-05-11 03:28 PMLike 0 - yeah i agree. having the same problem now. had to re add songs and re store them on my phone so i could listen to them online. service is goood but now comes the problems where you lose songs. i subscribed but if this keeps going on, i would have to unsubcribe.12-06-11 04:32 PMLike 0
- That is exactly what's happening. The people on the free account you can no longer listen to their songs they have selected only the 30 second preview. It will actually show you the arrows to the right of each song.
It is stupid.12-06-11 07:32 PMLike 0 -
I can really see this whole service just falling apart if they don't fix this. Once you get a critical mass of people leaving it'll become REALLY tough to even find people who's songs you can listen to. I've dropped from 10700 songs to 7800 in the last week, rather than adding contacts I now find myself spending time purging them.
I was convinced about this service and was going to subscribe. I'll still probably try it for a bit, but now I'll be surprised if it isn't too much work to be worth the trouble.12-06-11 10:34 PMLike 0 - Yuck. They either need to make this make sense (ie I pay $5/month so I get to listen to all my contacts songs, they pay to listen to their own songs, not to grant me the privilege of listening to theirs), or they need to somehow differentiate between Basic and Premium contacts in the UI so Premium users can avoid Basic ones like the plague.

Let the free accounts see only the preview.
I've been through the same thing cleaning out people.
something need to change.12-07-11 03:12 PMLike 0 - I have also seen the drop but took the plunge and subscribed I figure I will see a huge drop come January when the rest of the trials expire(I think). One idea I have is we can set-up a tread for people who are subscribing in the new year. Also I would not be surprised to see the rules change a bit as this is still a new service.12-11-11 12:47 PMLike 0

The crackberry poll recently showing only 10% of responders showing interest in keeping bbmm once the $5/month fee kicks in would support this. I think either the service will have to change in some way (more perks or a reduction in fees, or perhaps a free ad-supported version), or bbm won't make it till next summer.
