Wanted to hold out for the 9790, but my 9780 speaker died this morning. I can only talk on speakerphone. Only a year old, but I can't blame the device; I'm hard on things.

Speaking of, my car's in the shop today, so I'm going to try to find a close T-Mobile store with a 9780 left. 9900 is just too big.

Oh well, stuck with sh!t web page loading, but I'll have better battery life than the 9790, and I rarely browse anyway.

Well, just picked up one of each (9780 and 9930). The 9930 is for the wife. It's beautiful, but just too big for me. I WAS tempted, of course, but I went for the small size and battery life for myself.

It's been fun playing around with her touch screen and the 9930 is hella smooth, but I'm happy with the 9780 for another year or two. I think we're reaching a point in mobile technology where each new release doesn't necessarily supercede the previous. The 9790 comes pretty close to superceeding the 9780, but it's not quite here yet and even it has made some important concessions to the 9780 to manage its touchscreen and skinny profile.

I know to each his own but I think you should have tried for the 9790 and used the 14 day trial and seen if you liked it and if not reverted back to the 9780. Only with experience would you know if you like something or not, but overrall nice pickup on the 9780, still one of my favorite phones ever, just weird using it after my 9900.

IMO the touch screen is pretty much a step upwards.

Its a pain in da *** to scroll using the navi-wheel.

Replacing the speaker under warranty will be the best bet, or a repair shop could do it if the warranty is out/expired/void. If it's the headset/headphone swapping thing, you'll need to try and insert/remove the headset's plug until it starts working properly.

I see where your coming from hanging on to the 9780, i like to keep mine as a 'safety' phone. When i upgraded from a 9700 to a Torch 9800 it lasted a month before i got a 9780. Then i got the 9900 which lasted 2 weeks before i sold it & used my old 9700 for 2 month till i could get a white Bold 9780 which im currently using (& loving). Now as soon as the 9790 is available in the uk i'll be getting it as soon as possible. I'll give it a month & if im happy i will finally let go of the 9780 & keep my old 9700 as a spare but if not i have no qualms ditching the 9790 & continuing with the 9780 for as long as needed. As ive stated on these forums before i feel the 9780 is THE greatest ever BlackBerry & i stick to that (if your not really interested in web browsing)

    +1 .....

Both the 9700 & 9780 ARE workhorses ... even (if) I move to whatever, the 9780 stays as a standby!

Update: returned the unlocked 9930 I'd bought and paid full price for a 9900 from my carrier. I won't buy another unlocked phone. I'm sure it can work if a buyer does his homeowork, but that's more homework than I'm willing to do.

Given that, 9790 (likely will not be available on T-Mobile) is a bit less appealing to me. Looks like a great phone and I hope the 97xx form lives on (doubt it), but the 9780 is great as well and it's the best 97xx my carrier is likely going to have. Plus the battery comes in handy when I'm on my bicycle.

Love the wife's 9900, but I'm not sure I could lay on my back, hold it up between my index and middle finger, and type with two thumbs the way I'm doing on my 9780 right now.

Who knows what the bb10 bolds will be like? We may be seeing the last of the bold as we know it. Battery life has already dropped with the os7s. What's next?
