So I haven't had the 9810 for even two weeks and it has already crashed, losing 9 contacts and all my text message history in the process. The irony is that I connected it to my computer in order to back-up and it gave a message that the phone had a critical system error and would not restart until I wiped the firmware.

I'd like to avoid this in the future as I now have to track down the contacts I lost and hope to god there was nothing important in my text messages hat I will need to remember... Suggestions?

Did you back up with BlackBerry Protect? It covers all of your concerns.

Blackberry protect is in your setup. I recommend it as well. Also, get yourself on the newest os, .474 from telestra. Best os so far imo.

Just set up BB Protect with a daily backup. You're right. This should solve it. As for the .474 update, how can I get that or check if I already have it?

Go to options, about device versions, should show you version 7.0.0.xxx. It is likely you dont have, if you are ATT its prob 261. The 474 thread with download is sticky in this forum. Have you updated an OS before?

.474 battery life is great, with no side effects like the wonky menu button (.353). Update it soonest, you'll be happy. BlackBerry Protect is free.
