How does the physical keyboard on the new 9810 exactly compare with the other devices I listed? Has anyone really analysed the keyboards and did a full comparison yet? I'm wondering about, for instance, exactly how much bigger or smaller the 9810's keyboard is compared to the 9900, 9800, & the last Bold (9780). I was under the impression that both the 9810 & 9800 both have exactly the same keyboard. and that those keyboards were a teeny bit smaller than the old 9780's, which are all much smaller than the 9900's. I felt after typing recently on a friend's 9800 that its keyboard is virtually the same as the 9780's and that it's just that the 9800 has it depressed inside the chassis as opposed to the 9780 having it poking out right up front.

Perhaps someone out there may have all these units and can compare? Surely someone else besides me is wondering about this too?

    Hopefully this is useful:

The 9800 & 9810 have the same "feel" on the physical keyboard. It feels hard and isn't that nice, but with typing on it alot it becomes a little softer but it's still decent.

The 9900 has an AMAZING physical keyboard and when typing it feels like your not even typing. It is soft and It is just very smooth.

The 9700 & 9780 are almost like the 9900 but not exactly. The keyboard isn't too hard and isn't too soft. It is good and doesn't feel to heavy when typing (like the Torch). It also isn't as smooth as the Bold 9900.

The sizes for the Torch's are the same (I think) and the Sizes for the Bold 9700/9780 are the same (I think). I just used the Blackberry compare site and the stats are the same.

P.S. The Keyboards are from my personal point of view as I have had all the phones and it is also from others who have commented about the Blackberry keyboards.

I've owned the 9800 and now own the 9810 and they both feel the same. RIM did use the same keyboard so I'm not surprised the keyboard feels the same as the 9800. But I do like it, no compaints here

And I think the 9810's keyboard is somehow a little different, and better. Can't really say but it doesn't feel as mushy as the 9800 is.

I would say that those impressions are absolutely correct.

I seem to remember that there has been a very minor change to the 9810 keyboard over the 9800. Having owned both, the feel of the 9810 in how the keys respond when typing is better than the 9800. now that may be because of newness, or it may be real.

This is a quote from Bla1ze's Crackberry review of the 9810:
"Physical Keyboard - Heading to one of BlackBerry smartphones best features -- the keyboard. We have some debate here when we compare the BlackBerry Torch 9810 to that of the BlackBerry Torch 9800. RIM says that the keyboard is minutely wider then that of the one found on the BlackBerry Torch 9800 and while I can't see or for that matter even feel the difference, I'm sure diehard Torch fans will notice it. To me though, it's the same keyboard. It has the same "clicky" keys that will eventually soften over time and become less noisy and is as responsive as anyone would expect a BlackBerry keyboard to be."

I've bounced around recently (past few months) and have owned and tried all the models you mentioned, and more. Hands down the 9900 keyboard is the best of them (of all BB's for that matter). Saying that I actually settled on the 9810 mainly because of the complete package. If you need a device to pound out emails, bbm's, text, etc and you need a great keyboard then don't look anywhere else...the 9900 is awesome. If you enjoy browsing the web, social media and are more app-centric then I would sacrifice some keyboard love for a device like the 9810.

I really thought that the 9900 was the phone for me but I missed having a bit more screen real estate and slightly bigger icons to navigate more accurately on the touch screen. So I got the 9810 and love it...its the same basic guts as the 9900, I do miss the bigger keyboard sometimes but having the bigger screen trumps that for me.

RIM said they changed it slightly. Blaze from crackberry confirmed this on his full review.

    I don't think you really owned a 9800!

Apparently the 9810 is ever so slightly bigger than that of the 9800. Am talking about fractions here. I might have read that on gsmarena.

    9900 keypad >> 9700 keypad > 9810 keypad.

I have a 9810 and love it. First day today and batt seems fine and weight feels good. Keyboard is not that different from the 9700 which I had before.

But the 9900 has a gorgeous keyboard.

Used to have a tour, and I would prefer that keyboard to the 9810 or 9800. However, I love the form factor of the torch especially the bigger screen. I will agree with some of the previous posters that the 9810 does feel better than the 9800. I use both everyday so I can definitely feel the difference. The 9810 keys feel more responsive and the keyboard is less creaky. Overall I dont think you can go wrong with the Bold or the Torch

This sums up things well. I still have a 9780, but I'm considering the Tmobile 9810. I'm also considering leaving BB altogether. I had a SideKick for years and liked it, but now I'm used to one-piece construction. I'd wait for the 9860, but I don't know if Tmo will ever get it. The 9900 looks nice, but I think I'm ready for more screen. So, I'd like to ask whether you 9810 users feel like the slide mechanism will hold up. And do you soon get used to the recessed keyboard?

I have really enjoyed my 9800 for the past two years. My 9800 is still going strong, but I wanted the OS7 and the auto focus camera. I just bought the 9810, as I also like the slider and the larger screen.

I also have a 9810 and came from a 9800. Keyboard feel the same, however the button buttons on the lower part of the phone (call, blackberry, trackpad, ect) have a more distinct "click" when pressed in my opinion. I recently had the chance to test drive a 9900, and the keyboard is heavenly. I think the 9900 is best mobile keyboard I've used to date.

I always liked my good old curve 8520 keyboard over 97XX series because its spaced out layout. But getting accustomed to 9810 keyboard took no time for me. I felt not much difference in KBs of 98XX and 97XX buts that's me. The bigger screen and auto focus was a real deal breaker for me while chosing between OS7 devices.

9900 is great device if one has to write too much everyday.

It is all a matter of personal preference. I have found the 9900 keys a bit mushy whereas the 9810 more stiff and solid. I am still getting used ti my work 9900. The 9810 virtual keyboard is an improvment over the 9800. Is it me or do the large keys on the 9900 while they make the typing experience great that they remind me of the large keyed landline phones keypad?

We have one of each... the 9900 has the slickest and best keyboard of any Blackberry I've ever had - and I have had virtually all of them. It is also slim and light in the hand. The Torch 9810 has a hard feel to it - but also offers a virtual keyboard (both landscape and portrait) - which I am trying to learn as well..

after you use your torch 9810 for a week it becomes soft and much better than the 9990 and other torch and 9780 user. The 9990 is ok but my peference is the torch because its smaller and for easier to access keys etc.

I just found 9900 to be too big to my personal taste. Also, the battery and bricked issue have turn me off!

9780, 9700 and 9810 is order of which one I like better. 9810 is not bad, but it is a little bit cramp by very marginal depending on your fingers size. It makes loud noise and has much stiffer feel than the other two. I did try 9900 at store and it is definitely best of the 4 mentioned.

I would have the same as you, 7thSunday, but I think not all 9810 were made the same. The few times that I've tested the 9810 (default color), the keyboard was clickety and annoyingly stiff which made the keys hard to press. Today, when I went to the AT&T store, they had the 9810 on display in white and tested the keyboard, and I did not find the keyboard to be clicky nor stiff to press. It was much closer to the feel of 9700 which I think is a good keyboard. This surprised me quite a bit.
