- I love my Playbook.
Perhaps this will be a dud thread, but I am interested in hearing daily stories of how Playbook has made your life more efficient, freed up more leisure time, and also enhanced your leisure or business experience.
As a contract engineer it saves me mileage (gas!), time, which all boils down to money when you are billing hourly.
Yes I'm a greedy proud capitalist helping greedy corporations btw, for you occupy types
I'll start.
The inspiration for this is a few recent occurrences. Here's just one.
I was on site at a client's facility 30 miles from my office. I had an important Ebay auction coming up that I could not miss. My time on site ran longer than expected, and I had another site to visit in an hour and a half that was an additional 20 miles from my office. I could not miss this auction it was a rare one of a kind type thing. I had just enough time to go back to the office, make my bid, and then head off to the other client for a meeting. I could not be late.
Out of habit I thought, I wish I had brought my laptop so I could find a Starbucks hotspot...sure I could use my phone, but from previous attempts it is too slow to bid fast enough in a heated auction - I have ALWAYS lost the bid when I attempt this.
In my panicked frantic thinking I thought wait! I have my Playbook! But where can I get wifi? Should I annoy these people and ask for the encryption key for theirs? For security they likely would not allow that anyway...a flurry of thoughts and I was tired and reverting to old habits... then omg I'm so stupid. I have 3G!
Fired up the playbook (or should I say made a simple swipe across the screen), made the bid, went down to the beach with no wifi, did some preparation and research for my next next meeting (On my playbook) on a picnic table, with time to spare, arrived cool and calm instead of stressed.
Savings?
60 miles driving - .50 /per mile - $30
An hour working instead of driving $100 +
Won the Ebay bid .. hard to value, but very valuable to me.
Reduced stress - priceless
Playbook = freedom and with the way it has paid for itself, because of episodes like this AND the savings of an additional data plan because of bridge, it also is free.
My playbook pays for itself over and over and over....
Portable, Powerful, Professional, Playbook.
Next time Playbook saves you time - please share your story here.

11-01-11 05:30 PMLike 9 - kbz1960Doesn't MatterMine hasn't saved me any time or money other then not having to buy the tether app. I don't have or run a business nor does my job require any use of it.
It has freed me from carrying around my much heaver and bulkier laptop and does all most everything I used my laptop for on the go.11-01-11 06:11 PMLike 0 - Mine hasn't saved me any time or money other then not having to buy the tether app. I don't have or run a business nor does my job require any use of it.

11-01-11 06:27 PMLike 0 - I think this thread is a great idea. My Playbook has helped me immensely. I'm a lawyer and my practice is focused on civil litigation and labour/employment law. Since acquiring my Playbook it has become an indispensable tool in my practice. Here's how:
1. Sitting in court and a witness starrs explaining the route he took to get to the highway which is the subject of the litigation. I pull up my map app and can see exactly what the witness is referring to.
2. in negotiations with a union and the union rep claims that he is just copying a clause from another agreement. Off to the browser I go (using my Torch's ever present 3g connection), download the agreement and prove him wrong.
3. I've downloaded PDFs of the legislation I refer to most often and stored it on my Playbook, saving me the need to carry binders of statutes to refer to. The same goes for other collective agreements.
4. Sitting in a conference. An audience member asks the presenter about a particular case. The presenter doesn't know it. I go online, find the case, and email it to the presenter all from my PB. She was impressed.
5. Of course, I am bridged constantly so I can check emails. Now I reach for my Playbook before reaching for my phone to read and reply to emails.
Has it saved me money or time? Maybe not. Has it made my job easier and put more information at my fingertips? DEFINITELY! It has been the single best investment I have made for my practice.
Plus, I can snipe things on eBay and check Crackberry.com and twitter in my down time11-01-11 06:35 PMLike 17 - My PB has definitely made my working life easier. I work in the medical field and also dabble in a bit of education. I can present powerpoints off my PB without dragging out my laptop or be bound to a desk. I can use the hdmi output to present on a larger screen when needed. I can move from one student to the next and explain whatever they need using the medical dictionary installed.
I'm sure the ipad and android tablets can do similar but i find the PB so much more portable and more of a pleasure to use.

From pulling up PDFs of mechanical drawings and schematics created through PDF creator ultimate, to accessing a customers pc via RDM+ to handle a support issue, it truly enables me to multi-task while sitting at my desk or on the go.
Can't wait till February!11-01-11 08:18 PMLike 0 - Our Wi-Fi at home wasn't working last weekend, so using the Bridge Browser certainly helped me at times when I needed to look stuff up online.11-02-11 11:28 AMLike 0

I purchased it just before the surgery and feel it's the best thing I could have done for my healing! It has saved me from boredom or thinking about pain. Another great thing to do in bed!11-02-11 12:49 PMLike 0

That actually is a great idea I had never thought of - hospitals are so isolating lonely and depressing. Happy the playbook helps..
Are you using bridge for 3G? Don't know how many hospitals have wifi these days if any...Last edited by blackjack93117; 11-02-11 at 01:13 PM.

"The library is full, there were no computers free, the learning resource centre has been booked out for a meeting, what should I do?" he asks me. Rather than hunting out a spare classroom that he could use a computer in (which a time consuming and almost impossible task), I whipped out my PB and we sat i the refectory looking up the information he needed for the assignment, connecting to the college's wifi. A few notes scribbled down, a couple of extra paragraphs added to the end of his assignment and off he went to hand in his work.
Love the fact that I am the only person who doesn't have to fight for a computer in the staff room to check emails over lunch time too!11-02-11 01:11 PMLike 0 - I just had knee surgery so while lying in bed on the mend I have been full time happily involved with my pb. - Mine has actually earned me money. I'm a consultant, so when I meet with clients I always take the PlayBook, unless I am specifically meeting about an iOS or Android app. The PlayBook always gets asked about, and it looks/feels professional. I think it has made the difference in some clients deciding to use me for their project.11-02-11 01:18 PMLike 2
- Not sure it has saved me money. Will have to think on that.
IT HAS SAVED ME TIME... um, well.... BIGTIME. Many websites i would cruise otherwise on my 9850 but find the screen to small for those sites- or, they required flash, or were html intense... well, the playbook wizzes right through them quickly and with plenty of screen realestate. News online, stock trading, etc... i can do, whammo, on the playbook.... thanks to the bridge browser... and all this without having to wait until I am on a laptop or desktop at home/at a hotspot.
I dont have to buy a kindle! Thats $$$ saved....

I am a field engineer for a national sign company and fly to a different city almost daily (113 flights so far this year). The majority of my flights are day trips I fly to the site in the morning & back home that night. I have all my site plans on the Playbook and can take photos & videos with it so I no longer need to carry my backpack with everything (computer, camera,3G card,etc.). For those occasions where I stay over night the playbook saves on time at airport security because I do not have to remove it from my bag, so I can just zip right through the line.
