10-22-11 06:17 PMLike 0 - My battery life is terrible.. I'm on .440 cuz .439 just was the worst. They need a bigger battery
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com10-22-11 06:32 PMLike 0 - Between 12 and 14 hours of fairly heavy usage. It usually has around 20% left when I sit it on the charger. Pretty much the same as my old Curve 9300.10-22-11 06:59 PMLike 0
- I got beyond 25h on one battery charge yesterday The OS says 22h18 idle and 1h3 of use. I'm surprised because the total do not match 24h.
But to be precise on the week end I get a way better battery life. Last week end I got over 48h. Mostly because my phone mostly rest on my couch and only get 2G and WIFI but it is set like usual with 2G+3G+WIFI on.
During the week my average is 5%/h so about 20 hours between charges. But I'll report back with exact digits.
So far the best battery life saver is to switch to 2G+WIFI or 2G only. It doubles my battery life.Last edited by lostOzone; 10-22-11 at 07:48 PM.
10-22-11 07:41 PMLike 0 - I had my brand new 9900 on, fully charged, for less than a day with 3G+2G HSPA+ in an area with excellent reception, at most 15 texts, 15 emails throughout the day with lowest setting of backlight and no wifi/bluetooth/NFC. Ending up sending it back.
I find it counterintuitive for RIM to switch to a smaller battery for the 9900, but I guess they put thickness above a better camera (with autofocus of which is bearable), and battery life (unbearable coming from a 9700).10-22-11 08:55 PMLike 0 -
I compared it with connection settings that I am using with my current BB 9700. You could argue that they are different phones (i.e. one is touch screen, the other not, etc.), but I expected more by purchasing a new phone at least a generation ahead-- not less.
Also, one of the reasons why I moved from a 9700 to a 9900 was because of the HPSA+ connection, a touch screen, more RAM and a faster processor. I expected similar battery life considering it was a BlackBerry, and hence why I compared it to my 9700.10-22-11 09:23 PMLike 0 - 10-22-11 09:36 PMLike 0
- My phone has been off charger for 13+ hours, I've logged 2h1m usage and have 51% battery left on H+ connection10-22-11 09:54 PMLike 0
- Unplugged at 9 am this morning. Went to work, bbmd and texted alot, got a few emails, broswed the web for a bit, 2 half hour phone calls, and currently it's 11:50 pm and my battery is sitting at 60%. That's on 2G though. I honestly have no problem leaving my phone on 2G and then turning on H+ when i want to browse the web or something. I've got no problems if it gives me this great battery life.10-22-11 10:51 PMLike 0

About the smaller battery, if the 9900 had a 1500mAh battery instead of a 1230mAh, this would give us a 20% increase in battery life. Not nearly the battery life lost between 9780 and 9900. So I wouldn't blame the downsizing.10-23-11 08:00 AMLike 0 -
Also, in no way am I acknowledging that a full discharge is a good thing to do.10-23-11 01:06 PMLike 0 - I admit I don't fully understand waht you're saying. For the 9700, it it lasts for about 2-3 days. For the 9900 it lasted about 12 hours. I'd take the 20% increase in battery life over function, but RIM decided to take form over function. I did acknowledge other higher consumption features of the 9900 in my previous post.
Also, in no way am I acknowledging that a full discharge is a good thing to do.
A full discharge is not a good thing to do. But the battery must have a protection mode rendering the battery useless in the worst case. And the 9900 goes all wireless off when the battery is really close to be empty. So I wouldn't care much about not fully discharging the battery. And a full discharge is required to calibrate the battery when it's not living up to its potential so you should try full charge followed by full discharge.10-23-11 06:15 PMLike 0 - Usage is only one of several factors that will impact battery life.
Running 2G vs 3G/4G, WiFi on/off (connected vs not connected while on), signal strength (this is a big one), frequency of auto-updates (facebook, rss, social feeds, weather)
Need all this info to make any helpful and realistic comparisons.
My 2 cents...10-23-11 09:10 PMLike 0 - I can make it through almost everyone one of my work days with ease. I also have a charger at my work desk and in my car if needed. I would suggest investing in the wall charger that charges your device in half the time, great for when you only have an hour to throw it on the charger.10-23-11 11:33 PMLike 0
