From my google skills, I got that ATT's 3G bands are 850 and 1900.

Which is listed on the phone specs on the tmobile website.

    Link

Obviously I'm missing something since 100% of the people tell me it wouldn't work on ATT. Can someone explain to me why it wouldn't work since the bands are listed.

The specs in your link are wrong... those are AT&T's 3G frequencies

    T-Mobile uses AWS frequencies 1700mhz and 2100mhz
    AT&T uses PCS frequencies 850mhz and 1900mhz

You will only ever get EDGE with a TMO 9780 on AT&T

    AT&T - 850/1900 - 3G HSPA

    T-MOBILE USA - UMTS 1700/2100

BOTH USE 850/1900 GSM which is 2G...

this is taken straight from gsmarena i guess since there are two variations of the phone

    General 2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
    3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
    HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100
