- ChrisySeeker of the WayI started as a member here a week before I got my first smartphone, a BlackBerry 8330, in 2008. I asked questions even before my BB arrived ( http://forums.crackberry.com/crackbe...w-curve-53908/) and was surprised at how helpful and friendly the members were. So I stayed, asked more questions, learned so much and met some really great folks! I stayed up to date on BlackBerry news and device. Specific topics, and had laughs and interesting conversations. I even had a CrackBerry.com shirt made!
Starting with the Storm release the site has grown tremendously. Being a mod at the time I was in awe of how fast CrackBerry took off, all the new members. Yes, It got a little wild but CrackBerry remained a place for great information, discussion, debate.
A couple years later I, along with others, became dissatisfied with our current BB devices. The Android hit the scene some time ago and many former BlackBerry users started switching away from BlackBerry to both Android and iPhones.
So now we have a change in CrackBerry consisting of long time BlackBerry user that still have their BB devices, some that have Android or iPhone and many that use both or more platforms.
CrackBerry has changed from the small, hometown feel. It's like when you finally leave your small town in Quakertown PA and head out west and see the world for the first time! You learn, you grow, and you become more open minded.
I feel that CrackBerry has changed and many are resisting this. I can't count how many times I've heard the word troll being spit or BB users telling others to get out, that CrackBerry is for BlackBerry loyalists only.
I'm tired of this. Yes, CrackBerry now has more than BlackBerry users. But this change isn't a bad thing, and I think we need to embrace it. I left CB for five months when I switched to Android. I came back to CrackBerry because it is THE BEST smartphone forum online. I have visited many other smartphone forums in those five months, joined a few and was banned from one.
I love CrackBerry even more now because of the new diversity that has crept in. It's actually fantastic! I am learning about ecosystems, operating systems, all the nuances of Apple, Windows, Android. When CrackBerry was a small town all I knew was BlackBerry and I didn't see the whole picture. I'm enjoying CrackBerry more than ever.
My hope is that we can get over the personal attacks and flame wars. Yes, flame and attack the platform you think is crap. List pros and cons, compare and contrast your BlackBerry to his iPhone. But enough with the troll word, and the close minded sterotypes.
Not all BlackBerry owners are professionals. Not all iPhone users are teenage sheeple. Not all Android users are hopeless geeks that aren't concerned with security. That's silly.
I'm concerned CrackBerry will turn into a name calling, foul language, my dad can beat your dad up site. Let's not let it get to that. No reason to take ot personally when someone says your phone sucks. It's just an opinion, and not a personal attack on YOU. Just have fun and debate logically, passionately and without being childish.
To the fanbois that will respond with their tierd old lines. Go F yourself!
That's all. . It's been on my mind. CrackBerry Rules. No matter what device you have.Last edited by chrisy520; 10-15-11 at 01:09 PM.
10-15-11 12:33 PMLike 32 - Great post,
I too have noticed CrackBerry Dramatically change, we have the Zealots from the iOS, Android, and RIM Camps here on CrackBerry arguing their opinions day in day out.
We have RIM trolls who truly seem to be looking for ways to fight with Android and Apple users on the forum
We have Apple users who think the RIM would would be a better place if Everyone used an iPhone and they could get BBM on their iPhone
We have Android Users who love their specs and bring up the NEED for Wifi HotSpot, and FFC like a phone isn't a phone without them
And unfortunately those people are the posters who are here every day,
I see far fewer question posts and far more Rants about whats wrong with RIM, which I admit to starting a few myself,
CrackBerry used to be a village of like minded people here to help eachother,
We've become a diverse city, many special interest groups fighting for attention, and those new comers being over whelmed,
I really am Sad to see it go, I do with the user database between all the smartphone expert sites was linked so that a user registering on CrackBerry could go and get iPhone help from the iPhone Blog without needing to recreate a user name and password, and we could have a joint Smartphone general discussion forum for all of these argument filled posts with the "experts" from each site arguing it out, the noob to a platform would find that place later after settling into the villages with in the Smartphone expert city.10-15-11 01:12 PMLike 5 - I think the main reason for the issues is the fact that there are: Crackberry, plus Android Central, TiPB, and wpcentral, which are all spin-offs of Crackberry. Most people started with Crackberry, so they really have not gravitated toward the other sister sites as much. I know this, since I posted a question about Android a while back on the Android Central forums and got no response to my question.
I am also a member of another online forum that predates Crackberry. It used to be a BlackBerry-only site, but rather than spinning off "sister sites", it instead became platform agnostic. Granted, that site does not have as many members. However, the members tend to get along better.Last edited by lak611; 10-15-11 at 02:07 PM.
Chrisy likes this.10-15-11 02:04 PMLike 1 - In my opinion CrackBerry is the BEST PLACE to get all the info you need and also a good community, cause from time to time some short minded users decide to create an account and troll all around the forum that's their problems and we shouldn't be affected by that, Ignore them and move on.
The loyal CB Users know the differences from a short minded troll and the difference from a Good User who like to help New Comers to this Platform.
I know i post some Threads here on the forum what offend some of the user's but the intention wasn't to insult or Rage the CB Users it was just an opinion and what most of the other short minded PPL say or talk about BlackBerry.
But most of the time you find me ON the Forum Helping and give advice to new comers to this device as much as i know and what i know. but hey this CB has some much in store, with a simple SEARCH you can find all your answers(but some of us fell lazy to type on the search and look for 5min for our answer, rather trow a new thread and w8 3hours for a replay and is some cases you w8 even longer or wont get any replay at all.)so you'll end up searching the forum, most of te time if the question was answered i give them the link of the question.
Not long a go a did some analytic for CB to see how many users access this web site and i was WOW and if you would like to take a look here it is i dont want to spoil the CB but just take a look.September 2011 | Web Analytic CB vs BB.
This is all i want to say CrackBerry for life and in case i got an error ill FIX it!
Cheers and thank you Kevin for this Awesome Webpage.Last edited by UnknownError507; 10-15-11 at 02:24 PM.
10-15-11 02:19 PMLike 3 - I just got on CB in March so I will take your word that it used to be more civil. (Nice post by the way, Chrisy.) I know I can read the archives to see, but this is a comment similar to what other longtimers have said. So I take it you are spot on in analysis.
The only things that tend to bother me are the disrespectful language some users resort to. Like calling RIM's CEOs bozos and the like. No reason for that since one can state disagreements without that.
And there are a few users I see in many threads that always seem to dwell on the negatives. But hey, that's ok because generally most everyone has good points to make at some time or another.
Hopefully RIM keeps competing, CB stays strong, and we can all learn from one another.

When I joined it was my first smartphone and it seemed even then 2 years ago there weren't many bashing my dad is better then your dad and you bite posts.
When those started getting to be more and more it really started to bother me that owners of other phones were constantly telling bb owner they are dumb and stuck in the past or worse it felt like an attack on me and everyone here. Then when the playbook came OMG! Well we all know how that turned out. I even started taking discussion as biased bashing.
We all need to consider that not everyone thinks the same women and or men are hot as the next person and that goes for many things in life including our phones and gadgets. It's OK for each person to choose what they like and want without having to be attacked, belittled and fighting over it.10-15-11 03:23 PMLike 3 - ChrisySeeker of the WayI will say that I've been guilty of some not so nice posts. It's just the personal attacks, Troll word, that seems useless. Sure, defend your phone amd your choice. But don't tell other members to stfu or get out or call them uneducated (or accuse them of being less because the are not "professionals").
Some threads with debates are the best! But when it gets to calling others out on a personal level, it becomes pointless and frankly...boring. bit also, my post isn't !a "why can't we all get along" statement. Because, well, that's not interesting either!Last edited by chrisy520; 10-15-11 at 04:18 PM.

also, we need to stop the forum banter and complaining. i mean i dont want to even read the general or news forum because its all the same garbage now about the RIM outage or iphone this or that. it gets old and so annoying.
i liked how things were on the xda-developers forums. you need like 10 posts or so to even post in their ROM development threads. i had to google and research things on my own for HOURS to learn how to properly load a ROM or how to write certain files to the phone using RSD Lite. i was FORCED to do hours of reading and research to finally be able to do what i needed. i wasnt about to post up a million "how do i do this" threads. luckily, finding 'how to's" there was easy, thorough and up to date.
if we want to cut out alot of the waste threads around here, we need to think about what we have stickied, what we need stickied and what the easiest way for new people to find the info they need, before having to ask.Last edited by dictoresno; 10-20-11 at 08:35 PM.

So they come to CrackBerry, the biggest BB fan site on the net. What to they find? A bunch of BB hating and bashing. That sticks in the craw of the said "noob" and really gives visitors to CrackBerry a really bad impression.
We need to be sensitive to that.Chrisy likes this.11-01-11 11:55 PMLike 1 - True, but I would also say it goes both ways and a 3-4 year veteran with over 1000 posts shouldn't be told to STFU and gtfo by said noob.

This site Needs the New BlackBerry Fans far more than it needs the 3-4 year old vet who doesn't own a BlackBerry,
this site stays alive NOT due to ad revenue, but do to accessory sales, those who don't own BlackBerry's are NOT buying the accessories, and thus for the betterment of the group, and the long lasting nature of this site, it needs to cater MORE to the new excited poster, and less to the disenfranchised veteran poster who no longer uses the pay for products from the site.11-02-11 07:24 AMLike 2 - OK taking off the Mod hat for a sec, and posting as a member!
What is the point of CrackBerry.com? I first came here to get info about this upcoming new BlackBerry, the Bold 9000. I already had a 7290, and a Verizon dumb phone. I learned so much about the Bold, plus another coming phone, the Storm 9530, and much about my existing BB, which I soon lost. (office cutback) I found out that this place was THE place to get info about the world of BlackBerry, and THE place to get help if you were having any trouble with your BlackBerry.
I discovered not only the blogs, with all these wonderful BB 101s and other Help sections, BUT this thriving community of BB users (and others) in our forums. Then I caught Storm fever, and became what Kevin was affectionately calling a "Storm Chaser." I even remember posting from the line as I was waiting to purchase the Storm on the day it was released. And in these forums I saw members helping other members. I was helped, and then I started helping others. I even started my own help thread in the Storm Forums. I put this in my signature and I meant (and still do) it! "We come, we learn, we pass it on, CrackBerry.com!" Eventually they asked me to become a Moderator!
So what has happened to that CrackBerry spirit? It's still here in many of us, BUT too often lately I come across these threads comparing the platforms. And threads complaining about the different platforms. Threads about how people feel RIM is on the verge of collapse. Or staunch defenders, who despite all the missteps by RIM can see NOTHING but peaches and cream, and they will destroy anyone who says otherwise.
Lets get back to the spirit of CrackBerry.com! Like it says in my signature!
We come, we learn, we pass it on, CrackBerry.com!11-02-11 08:09 AMLike 5 - I used to be an active member on TreoCentral as I had a Treo600, 650, and then a Palm Centro before switching to my Crackberry. After I got my Crackberry I started a Crackberry account and didn't go back to TreoCentral because I no longer used the device. The point is if I dumped my Crackberry for an iPhone or Android device I would start an account on Android Central (which I did have one when I was researching on if I wanted to switch to Android), or tipb or some other forum that catered to that device and move on. I wouldn't keep coming back here looking for threads where someone was bashing my new switched to device to defend it or to say the grass is greener, etc. I'd personally like to see the other device sub-forums just nuked and link over to the sister sites. Open up mobile nations as the melting pot area and keep Crackberry about Crackberry devices. **** it would be cool if you had to have a PIN to get a full privilege account and issue non-Blackberry owners restricted accounts with less privileges. Would probably help the other sites grow too. That said the blackberry Fanboys are just as bad about attacking current Blackberry users with complaints about the platform as the fanboys from other devices. Mediocrity, Fanboy is thy name!
All of this is just my humble opinion and I'm sure people will disagree.maddie1128 likes this.11-02-11 12:30 PMLike 1 - ChrisySeeker of the WayI use an Android now. Does that mean I can't be interested in BlackBerry devices anymore?
I like that there's also an Android and Apple section here. This forum has the most members. I don't care to join a bunch of different forums when it's all right here.
We were all BlackBerry users at one time. I helped a lot of people with their BlackBerry devices. I may switch back to BB.
So, I'm staying. Until, I suppose, a forum manager or Kevin says to leave. I don't think that will happen. Some of you guys are being so dramatic.
Yes, CrackBerry has changed. For the better in my opinion. But, really, The core is the same. Help, news, rumors, discussions.Last edited by chrisy520; 11-02-11 at 12:44 PM.
