I called 3 different AT&T Stores in my area to ask when they will have the phones, and these are the answers i got.

    1. Just spoke to the Blackberry rep 3 days ago and it should be with in the next month or 2
    2. Not sure when
    3. I don't even know what that phones is.

I mean really come on... Reason I called is cause i heard some AT&T stores already had them so i decided if that was the case here in Ohio as well, but it does seem to be.

It just really bothers me that they can act/be so clueless.

Its more a lack of information provided. most stuff becomes known here before it becomes known to the store reps. They aren't privy to any 'secret information'. we are the last line of defense, you think they'd tell us proprietary information?

That's exactly what I'm getting at...I would be OK with their responses a week ago, but considering that every best buy store i called knows about the phones and knows about the launch date and they see that they will have them available for the launch date I would expect at least the same info from an AT&T store if not more.

I felt the same way when I asked about it last week, but that was before the official announcement. Could it be that they want you to buy a device that day, rather than waiting for later?

No, wait a minute. I just called Best Buy, and that person was clueless, too.

You would think that a company would send a memo to it's stores BEFORE it announces it on their Facebook page....

Too funny. I read on another thread that a CB member was able to aquire their new 9810 and wanted to return to iOS4. Decided to stop by my Local AT&T after my lunch and a guy I've worked with for several past releases didn't have a clue as well. I asked him if he had any new Torches in stock. No. I asked isn't the release date 8/21. Don't know. He stated maybe several weeks. Either he's a great actor to say he has no knowledge or the corporate AT&T memo to satelite retail stores wasn't received just yet to this location.

By the way, I knew I was wasting my time but found the whole thing humorous and made my day. Crossing fingers for next Monday then.

My friend works at AT&T as a sales person and I had more information than he did on the 9810 and 9900. I am not sure they have told him the release date yet.

A suck & suck reps can be and are clueless at times. I called in on Sat regarding a problem with the camera on my 9800 and a warranty replacement. After getting nowhere with the rep I asked for a bump to a supervisior. Both were clueless and didn't help me in any way. They kept insisting it was a software issue and asked me to wipe and reload. I explained that I'd already wiped all the way to a 507 error and reloaded from scratch. They had no clue what a 507 meant or how to even reload the OS. I was about to ask for a bump to RIM support but asked about when the 9810 was available instead thinking I might move to one of those. Again no clue. They also were not aware that the insurance deductible was being raised to 199 from 125. This was the worst CS I've had from att ever and I'm a long time customer.

I had issues like this with VZW when I was with them. I am shocked they knew what a BB was still.

What was really funny is when the rep answered she stated her name followed by the words "your Blackberry Specialist". I thought finally someone at att that knows BB's. That = epic fail on their end. After almost 35 minutes on the phone, I just couldn't make them understand that the camera hardware on my BB is faulty and not the software. I was going to do a insurance replacement but frankly even at my price of 125 that's WAY to much for a 9800. So waiting for official release date from att and go from there.

Haha, yeah when I took my 9630 over to AT&T from VZW (After being told they couldn't unlock it and it would not work on AT&T, Thank you VZW store rep and manager) I had to make a few calls to get BB data plan and all added on. So when I got to the BB tech people is was super cool to talk to someone that owned a BB and loved them as much as me. But again, I had to educate them on the new up coming devices.

As a general rule, the reps are clueless on new/pending releases and are usually the last to know anything about them.

Most reps I've dealt with in store kinda have the "robot" approach and always want to throw the Iphone hoopla at the customers. 95 percent of the stpre reps have Iphones, so they must get a great discount.

A few of the Best Buys that I called that are by where I live said the things that you got from AT&T......but when I went into a local Best Buy a Mobile rep told me that it should be in by today, or Friday. Who knows if they would release early I'd hope lol

So I just called the AT&T on 7th Ave in Park Slope and asked if they would have the 9810 on Sunday. He was like "Yeah, the new Torches? We will, just call on Sunday and we'll hold one for you" (I asked about pre-ordering). Sooooo excited!
I think that the reps not knowing may be due to the shocking fact that maybe not everyone is as BB crazed as us addicts who patronize crackberry.com. And troll the web endlessly for BlackBerry updates. And call mobile companies excessively in fervent hope of new information
Or maybe the companies tell their reps to play dumb to keep excitement near release date at fever pitch. Hype is important you know...

<----- Last paragraph sounds about right because whenever CB addicts call explaining a "possible date" the reps have to script their answers to keep the hype going and then when that "date" arrives it becomes official. However for us, it's like "Yeah we knew."
Just typical of the reps. It's like you Either know it or you don't. Don't beat around the bush.

When I tried out the original Torch, I ordered it over the phone from customer service about 5 months after it was released. When I told the guy I wanted the white one he said "that phone comes in white?". Talk about clueless.
