It has nothing to do with Blackberry and more to do with the carriers.
Well add Rogers to that. What is interesting, a future software update will add it: “not available at launch – enabled via software update at future timeframe”
There will be a software update post launch.. The question really is how long will it take for the software update to bring basic UMA and Wifi Hotspot (That even bottom of the line Androids have).

Ya people who live in an area with spotty coverage would be out of luck with this. BlackBerry's "Top of the line" phone could be a non-option to some. This strikes me the same way the no native email on the Playbook.
UMA is one of the main features on my 9700. Im gonna call Rogers can ***** them out every day until they add it. I suggest you all do the same. It only takes 20 minutes each day to give them a piece of your mind! and who knows u might get 3 months free calling or something
I suspect UMA is a challenge technically once you add the HSPA+ to the mix. Remember when the 9700 first came out there were lots of posts about problems in BB OS software when switching between wifi and 3G while on a UMA call.
But until I see t-mobile make a public statement about their commitment to provide UMA and wifi hotspot functionality, I refuse to commit to another 2 year contract with them!
