Would an unlocked att 9700 have no 3g when being used on att? Trying to determine why my 9700 I picked up off of craigslist won't pick up 3g.

It may be set to 2g only. Look at Options>Networks and Connections>Mobile Network.

Should have mentioned, it is set to 2g and 3g, and upgrading from os5 to os6 did not have an effect on the issue.

Could be why it was on Craigslist in the first place...

If you are running OS 6, go to Options>Device>About Device Versions.

What do you see in 3G bands?

If it is an AT&T device, you should see bands 1, 2, 5, and 6.

    It does show 1, 2, 5, and 6 by 3g bands.

Well, those are the proper bands. You did not get a T-Mobile device. Does AT&T have 3G signal where you are?

Yeah, I'm in the downtown loop of Chicago, and had 3g pretty much full time anywhere in chicago on my 9000 and 3gs is the past, although things load faster on the 9700's EDGE than the 9000's 3g so maybe I shouldn't complain.

OK, two stabs in the dark. Go to Options>Device>Advanced System Settings>Host Routing Table open the menu and do Register Now. I'm not sure why a routing table problem might get you stuck on 2g, but it can't hurt and may help. The other stab: do you have a new or old SIM? Some old SIMs don't play nicely with the upgraded network.

I'd say a sim card issue....

Try the new SIM and see if that works out for you. If not, just stick with edge and you should be fine

The sim was ATT's first idea and didn't change anything. Tried the routing table thing and no change.
