- I don't understand why the Torch is only getting 4gig storage, while the Bold and Torch 2 are getting 8???? This makes no sense. Why would you give the phone most geared towards multimedia and gaming the least amount of space for apps?

only like small percentage of ppl will use that much storage, no point of inflating device price for the rest of us who will not use that much storage.08-03-11 03:10 PMLike 0 -
- exactly, you can pop a 32gig card in and boost this bigtime.
Apple doesn't have a 36gig IPhone do they? (4 gig onboard + 32 gig microsd)08-03-11 03:13 PMLike 0 -
- Why 4GB? Who knows, the Torch 9810 got the 8GB jump. It's sure isn't space-saving measures; possibly cost cutting? Or they just figure 4GB is enough?
Anyway, apps with BB have always been iffy in terms of storing vs. amount available. I remember a post somewhere around here explaining why BlackBerry stores the apps to your RAM instead of internal storage like every other phone (might have something to do with security). Point being is you can expand storage for videos/photos/documents/etc. but app storage is limited to 768MB (including OS and everything). Now I do believe apps can store data on your internal or memory card, but main application is in memory.08-03-11 03:25 PMLike 0 -
- listen to what people are telling you. blackberrys store their apps/os in the same place the ram so we are limited the 768mb that it comes with. Your point invalidated. the 4gb can be used for media and documents. then can be augmented with a micro sd card.08-03-11 06:14 PMLike 0
- I wonder if apps for the BB will remain smaller than comparable apps for Andriod or iOS. I know my daughter and I both have the Starbucks apps on our phones. For Blackberry the app is a few hundred k in size compared to >10 Mb for her Android.
Factors like this would make this a real apples and oranges comparison.08-04-11 06:19 AMLike 0 - You have made your point here.
For 95% of all the 9900 users there is more than enough memory for software on the internal memory.
Most Blackberry users are not like iPhone users who prefer to load their device up with useless software which most is seldom or ever used. We KNOW that Apple has a lot of software but they need to go through and eliminate the junk!08-04-11 07:19 AMLike 0 - I wonder if apps for the BB will remain smaller than comparable apps for Andriod or iOS. I think once the QNX OS BB is released, we'll see something more in-tune with the PlayBook, iPhone, and everyone else: 16/32/64 GB flash drive for everything (apps included) with RAM separate.08-04-11 07:34 AMLike 0 - The RAM runs the OS, the ROM (4GB) stores the OS and apps. 4GB is still a ton of storage capacity for this use. I'd suspect, as mentioned earlier, it's to keep the cost down, since the full touch screen costs more than the screens on all the 8GB models.08-04-11 08:07 AMLike 0
- This is a massive over site. Large screen, all the websites show its media viewing...Recording HD Video...then they tell you it has 4Gb of storage?
Wtf?
Its just stupid, people do look at specs, tell me, what other current high end full touch device has 4Gb of storage?
I was so hoping for a iPhone killer, this just isnt it, **** all the Android phones are coming out or already out with better specs. It should have had the same specs as the 9900, I just dont understand it...

That's app storage, and still leaves enough GB of room for anything but a full feature film. Not positive, but my guess is you could record HD directly to the SD too, giving you a potential 32GB of memory. More than enough to make your own Blair Witch Project.08-04-11 08:35 AMLike 0 - This is a massive over site. You can record all the HD video you want on a 32gb memory card. Apple gives you no choice for memory cards and they HAVE to include it in the phone but look at what it costs!
Your iPhone awaits you!08-04-11 08:44 AMLike 0 - You have made your point here.

I am not defending the iPhone, but I can't understand why you would limit your app storage to 768 meg. There are 100 meg+ iPhone apps. (games etc).
If you want to compete with the iPhone, why would limit your app storage so badly?
You might say well a BB app is 1 mb and the iphone is 50meg, but if you compare the apps, the iPhone app is usually MUCH better than the bb app. If you remove the issue of storage space, I don't see why BB apps cannot be as good or better than an iPhone app.
QNX will change all of this, so maybe it is an OS7 thing....08-04-11 09:52 AMLike 0 - I am not defending the iPhone, but I can't understand why you would limit your app storage to 768 meg. There are 100 meg+ iPhone apps. (games etc).

08-04-11 10:06 AMLike 0 - I'm sorry... are you saying my questioning the app storage is borderline bannable and that I am not welcome here? I have a storm2 and 32gig playbook and you are telling me I am not welcome on a blackberry forum? Maybe I am misunderstanding your post.

You've been fine, though confused about what part of memory is for what. I think someone else got you misguided. Think of it as a PC. You have RAM that runs the software, and ROM that holds the software.08-04-11 10:22 AMLike 0 - Thanks. Yeah, I guess I am confused. Coming from my storm 2, 768 meg ram is heavenly. Can't wait to get the new torch 9860, but I haven't seen any verizon announcements on this phone. Might be time to jump to ATT. I am tried of going to my verizon store, asking when they will have new berrys and then them trying to stick android down my throat. I don't want a freaking droid!08-04-11 10:24 AMLike 0
