For install instructions to load any carrier 8820 OS onto your BB:

    1. Back up data on Desktop Manager under Back up/restore option
    2. Back up your 3rd party apps. Instructions here--> http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/how-...cations-53201/
    3. Disconnect your BB from Desktop Manager
    4. Download desired OS to your PC
    5. Install/run OS to PC
    6. Delete vendor.xml file. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
    7. Connect BB to Desktop Manager and it should prompt the upgrade. If not click app loader and that should initialize it.
    8. Do not unplug BB during the process. It will take around 30-60 minutes to complete upgrade.

***Steps 2 is optional but recommended

I've been using 4.5.0.46 for a month or so. Pretty stable "except" that UMA calls freeze my 8820 now and then.

Is this version (or the previous 4.5.0.52) more stable with UMA calling?

Any other obvious differences or improvements over 4.5.0.46???

    Thanks;
    /BD

I cant say for sure but the users with the 8320's seem to be more happy with UMA on .52 and .55.

Newbie here (and to BB 8820 - less than a week old). Upgraded BB OS with no issues. Step 1 had me backing up BB via DM. I found another .ipd file when all was done is my home directory name LoaderBackup-(2008-08-24). All my 3rd party apps were maintained as well. Not sure if step 1 shouldn't be optional as wel given that this backup is created. Am I missing something here? Is there a reason NOT to remove the BB Device Software from my PC OS now that it's installed on the BB.

I upgraded my 8820 from 4.2.x and it bricked part-way through with a 507/similar error. I had to wipe and reinstall the OS. Sadly, brickbreaker was nowhere to be found (even with "show all" in the programs list.)

Also, I was late for work because the alarm refused to go off in silent mode. I had to make an exception for the alarm_ tone I had set.

I still have issues connecting to my wireless at home - D-link DGL-4300 Gamerlounge with WPA enabled (It works fine if all security is disabled). That's another post though.

not so sure about how much good this new version can do to my BB...

BTW, can somebody tell me how to get a former version of firmware? 4.2.2.184 is quite stable that I won't to keep it

If 4.2.2.184 is from your carrier, you should be able to get that from your carrier site.
