Is it possible for me to run the 9700 os on the 9780?

i.e., can i buy a 9780, wipe the software, and reload the 9700 software?

    Thanks in advance guys!!!

um no. the phone can tell which OS you are trying to load and apploader will not let you put an OS meant for one phone, onto another. the "update" will never see the phone once connected to the PC and vice versa.

why even bother? the 9700 and 9780 get near mirror image OS's. they all have the same application versions (.448, .534). same ish man.

i tried to keep it simple for you. obviously, you think i dont know what im talking about lol.

there are many ways for the phone and the soon to be operating system to communicate prior to loading. there are certain files in the phone that need to match the phones model number and sometimes Vendor ID in order to be loaded onto the phone. even with a 9700 OS on your computer and a 9780 connected, neither will be compatible.

go ahead, try it. feel free to install the 9700 6.0 OS to your PC and then load apploader or Desktop Manager. your phone, a 9780 will be detected, but no OS or updates will be. if you wipe the phone before you try, just keep an extra copy of a 9780 OS handy. this is for when it doesnt work, you can then install it on your computer and reload to your phone.

if you arent fond of OS 6, your only option is to buy a 9700. they may look the same, but the 9780 runs twice the memory and im sure a different radio file. the two phones OS's are not compatible with eachother. some individual COD files may be, but not the whole OS.

Themes is not what we are looking for. Even on the 9780, OS6 is so choppy and laggy that makes us wanna go back to OS5.

It's funny because it seems like my 9700 runs os6 better than my 9780. Weird, I know. But I do like knowing that I can "downgrade" to os5 if need be. It seems like all the issues I had with my 9780 on os6 are gone now using my 9700 on os6.
