My awesome little Bold 9700 is unfortunately starting to crap out on me so I was looking for suggestions on if a Torch might be a good choice or not! Thanks in advance!

I had the original Bold 9000, and then the 9700. Now I'm in love with my 9800! It is really best of all worlds. At least until the Torch 2 comes out!

you have 14-30 days to try it out
i have both the 9800 and the 9780 and i like them both, each has its own strength and weakness.
since you'll be coming from a 9700, the 9780 might not be that appealing to you hardware wise, but OS 6 changed the UI experience.

you will LOVE universal search, present in both OS 6 device.

    goodluck!

Considering your asking in the torch section of the forums, you'll likely get a biased opinion. If you ask the same question in the 9780 section you'll more then likely get the same amount of "go for it you wont regret it, my XXXX is way better then the XXXX" response in there.

You do have a a trial period to test it out(depending on carrier this can be anywhere from 14 to 30 days), so the decision is solely on you.

You will really enjoy the Torch, especially if you have been a BB user in the past or currently operate an older version....It's an awesome tool, the learning curve not hard, especially as you learn the mental mindset behind its creation....Go For It.. you won't regret,, just give yourself a 2-4 weeks of hands on before you form opinion...

I have never had a 9700 so I can't compare directly although I have hade a few other BB. I came from an 8830 and really like everything about the 9800. You cant go wrong with either. Personal preference...it's up to you alone.
I will say that OS6 was definately made for touch screens...IMO.

A search turned up a few similar threads for you to read if you want more opinions.

It's a decision based very much on personal taste. My previous phone was the much smaller Curve 8900. When I got my Torch, I was dismayed by the weight and thickness and the clumsy access to the keyboard. But at this point I find it hard to give up the bigger screen in favor of size/weight/keyboard access. I also find it hard to imagine getting a slimmer pure touch like the upcoming Storm, because I like the physical keyboard. The bottom line is that the Torch offers a unique combination of larger screen and a physical keyboard at the cost of greater thickness and weight. It's up to you to decide if that is worth the cost.

Being that I had my 9800 and then an unfortunate accident happened which had me using my 9700, I can tell you, you will love the switch.

If you have AT&T, the only real choice if you want a AT&T branded or on contract BlackBerry is the Torch.

Only reason I may be looking into getting the 9780 over the Torch is because everyone of my phones is Touchscreen and I like variety. Doesn't even mean I like the 9780 more as I really think the 9800 is one of my favorite BlackBerry devices to date.

i have os6 on my 9700 and can't stand it. seems like all my memory was used on the os... lol. i'm sure i'd like it more on the 9780 though.

I would return it, and provided your 9700 will last until then (load OS5 back on to it, might help), wait for the Torch 2. However due to water damage I cannot return mine, my only hope would be to sell it on eBay (I'll get what, 150 maybe, out of the 425 I paid for it, no thanks, I'll keep it). However I plan to send it off for a proper repair so that it works well again. It's falling to pieces is mine! But that's because I slammed mine on tables a lot. It's a very solid phone.

why get the torch 1 now when you can get a torch 2 with updated specs very soon? a person with 0 iq would be that dumb to shoot for the torch 1.

I'm very glad I got mine a month ago even though 2 may be out soon. Later I'll try to get it but I don't regret getting my Torch. Best Phone I've had and I love it.
