no, there is no 5.0 OS that was released for the 9780. it was made 6.0 ready and released with ONLY 6.0 OS's available for it. if he wants OS 5 that bad, he can do one of two things....

1.) trade it for a 9700 and revert it back to OS 5 if it doesnt already have it loaded

2.) try to find an OS 5 looking theme

This is the perfect solution. Great response, dictoresno.

Here are some (free) OS5-layout themes. The third one has the OS5 layout, but features the new, 6.1 icons, if he prefers that.

i actually like the OS6 layout vs OS5, just cant stant the swiping through the different panes. i think they are useless and annoying if you swipe to far and didnt mean to.

The moving "panes" is exactly what I hated the most. I prefer a two line home screen with everything else available with a press of the menu button.

Just could not get used to the sideways thing. As you know there are some good themes that cure this quickly!

I came to make peace with the panes. The solution is called Universal Search. ^^

If "universal search" is what's draining my battery... then please show me how to disable it. Where do I go?

I do enable Applications Shortcut but pressing "S" on homescreen gives me Universal Search anyways. That way I don't do much scrolling.
