I'm thinking about trading my Samsung Captivate for either a Torch or a 9780 and was curious. I came from a 9700 originally and thinking back, it was a far superior phone to the Captivate minus the intuitive APPs on Android. The 9700 was one of the best build quality phones I had ever used, almost 0 problems (except that after a year it started locking up on me occasionally...not nearly as often as Android phones tend to do (or even iPhones for that matter)). So why SO MANY flawed builds of the 9780? Any reasoning behind this? Faulty new equipment or something?

guess it depends on who you ask. I purchased 2 9780s in jan and they are both perfect without issues. I have not personally seen a 9780 that was not a good one. I have nieces with them as well as friends. Forums will often give a feel of despair when researching things be it phones or cars

Good point, but I actually didn't listen to a forum once ( about a WinPho 7 HTC Surround and what was said in the forum bad about the phone is exactly what happened to mine, lol

Well that is always my concern too about telling someone something is great as that is about the time they get a bad one. So is this trading in for a brand new phone? Of the three torch phones that I know of one was traded in for a replacement the other one was sent in for repairs because it was dropping calls and the third one the slide was a mess but this was due mostly because the guy carried it in his front pocket not a good idea. So I will end with if you get a 9780 that is good they are all that a 9700 is plus the extra memory if your someone who needs 200 apps on your phone. Good luck on your draw if you go for it.

I agree with you about the 9700. I still think it is the best phone RIM produced. That is why I went with the 9780. I have not had any problems with my phone to this point. In fact, I really enjoy the browser and universal search on OS6. All in all, I don't think you'll be disappointed with the 9780.

I've had a 9780 for a couple of months now and it's the best phone i've ever purchased, everything works fine. Had an Android phone before and hated it with passion. Granted i haven't had mine for a long time but i would recommend it to anyone looking for a new phone unless they absolutely gotta have a touch screen, then i would suggest waiting for the new batch of phones from RIM.

I love the form factor of my 9780, but the recent "double click" with the keyboard I have been experiencing, I'm over the keyboard all together and I am very interested in the upcoming BlackBerry Toouch.

I went from android to a 9780 and it is one of the best business decisions I made. Android is too fragmented and the force close issues made me jump ship. At the end of the day my android device drove me nuts. My 9780 is bulletproof.

only problems i had with mine is at first, i had to get the rogers guy to reset my connection because it wouldn't connect to the 3G network at first (only the 3g), and i can somehow use the internet on it (obviously i wont just in case) even though my plan with rogers is only the BB Social $40 plan, which I'm pretty sure isn't supposed to let you use the actual internet, only stuff like facebook, twitter, msn.

I don't even have a 9780 yet but I'll agree with most everyone here. I had a 9700 a while back and that was one great device. I have been using Android for at least a year now and just recently got an Android tablet. Since I really don't need two Android devices, I gave my phone to my daughter and started using a spare BB 9300 that was layig around. That's just until I can get the 9780 next month. The first thing that struck me was the excellent call quality and that was on a relatively low end BB. I also realized how much I missed that wonderful little LED along with UMA calling (much better than regular WiFi calling). I'd still say that my Android tablet is better for most data uses but none of the Android phones can come close to BB for straight phone functions, e-mail and texting. That's not to say the Android phones aren't good in those areas, just not AS good as BB. I have found the best of both worlds with my Galaxy Tab and my BB 9300 soon to be 9780.

I've had 2 9780s. Traded my first for a Torch and quickly traded back for another 9780. Both were bullet proof. The 9780 is the most professional phone out there in my opinion.

i had the 9700 up until 2 months ago but it broke, i called insurance and they sent me the 9780 as they have no 9700's left and i have not had one problem since, if anything i like this phone way better no need to worry about doing battery pulls with os 6 on it, also i usually have around 30 apps on my phone at any given time and with the 9700 it would only leave me with around 20mb free memory, overall great phone

ive had my 9780 for a few months i dont have any problems. i feel like honestly you can find problems with any phone that people buy. Theres always the return policy on a new phone, and I believe if there is "known" issues most companies or rim will replace it

Except it stinks when your replacement phone winds up exhibiting the same issues that you returned the first one for. See the Double Input/Keypad issue thread. I bought my first 9780 in mid December... It's now Mid-April and I may need to contact T-Mobile for a third 9780 because my keypad is on the fritz again.

Anyone have the issue of not being able to open the convenience option? It would only open for a fraction of a second and then close.
