I'm looking into buying one or the other and I know that the 9780 is supposed to be more updated but aside from a slightly better camera, can anyone help me with what some of the difference are between the two? Thanks so much!

9780 enhancements over the 9700 are:

    1) 5 MP camera (3.2 for the 9700)

    2) 512 MB of internal memory which will give you smoother operation in OS 6 and you will never get errors due to low memory. (9700 has only 256 MB)

They are exactly the same form factor, same battery, same screen, same keyboard.

the 9700 is a very respectable BB still.

But if you have the money, then get the 9780.

    9700: bold with less bolder....
9780: RIM made some money by installing OS6 and slight hardware specs.

Coming from the 9700 to the 9780 I found it is alot smoother adn you can have apps galore while maintaining snapiness. The camera is a 'slight' hardware spec that makes a TON of difference. Especially if you do more with your pics than just leave them on your Berry. OS6 = OMG! Like ML said, if you can swing it, get the Bolder Bold.

The biggest difference to me personally, is the 512 of memory.

I install OS 6 and I have 317 MB (after shrinking) and 285 MB FREE after installing all my 17 paid apps and some themes and some free apps!

This is a huge gain. You no more need to worry about every bit of memory that you have or memory leaks. I am least bothered with memory leaks ever since I bought a 9780 as I have plenty of free memory that will almost never run out

While the 9700 is an excelelnt device if you know how to shrink your OS and not load many apps, it will run fine, but you will not be able to fully enjoy installing any app you want without worrying about memory.

When my 9700 was stolen I wanted to buy a new one because I was so in love with this phone, but I bought a 9780 instead, and I love it.

The camera and memory are a huge plus.

You need a third poll option... wait for the Bold Touch!

Depends how crazy you are with your phone use... if you're a true "CrackBerry", you'll notice the benefit of the camera and additional memory and it'll prove worth the dollars. Though if you're mainly the kind of person who just leaves your photos on your BB and never pulls them off, even the better camera isn't that huge a difference (if only the 9780 recorded in HD video). And if you don't run too many heavy apps, you're probably ok with the 9700's memory too. Though if you want to run BB6 on the 9700, maybe just go up to the 9780.

But in general when it comes to phones, I'd argue going for the newest is usually a policy you won't regret, even if it costs a bit more.

if you NEED the phone now, get the 9780.
but if you can wait, the Bold Touch 9900 is way WAY better.

I agree, the benefit of the additional memory is worth it. BB6 probably runs better on the 9780. But, if you can hold out for the Bold Touch I would suggest doing that.
