I have an 8520. The 'check in' option on my FB app didn't allow me to do it, due to lack of GPS. But after receiving a file off somebody who had a Bold (was sent via bluetooth) it works. Think it uses there like map data or something. So try that

Is your 8520 running BlackBerry OS 5? Check in Options, About. Places is disabled in earlier versions of the OS.

What was the file? My GPS doesn't even give me the option to turn it on

Wor lass had the 8520 for a few weeks and no places. Downloaded bb maps and then got the option, not really sure of what it did but she could then check in....

They just bluetoothed me a video from a night out, it was like my phone picked up data or something from his phone.
