- So after using OS 6 for about a month, I honestly think I can say I like 5 better and so am going to switch back to it for now. Before everybody goes and calls me crazy for switching back, that's not the point of this post! The point is: For those of us wanting to stick with OS 5, what do you think is the best release for the 9700? I believe the last 4 were 862, 938, 979 and 1014, so I'll stick with those. Which would you pick?
EDIT: Well I tried to make this a poll... but I guess I did something wrong Maybe a mod could fix it? If not just post your answers!Last edited by Alex338; 02-14-11 at 12:18 PM.
02-14-11 12:14 PMLike 0 - Yes I realize that different OS are good for different people. I used 862 for a long time. It was great, then briefly used 979 / 1014 before upgrading to OS 6. Now I'm back on 1014... but I'm still curious to get other peoples opinions!02-14-11 12:23 PMLike 0
- I use .979 on my AT&T Branded Bold 9700 and I love it. The only issues I have with this OS:
1.) Native Photo App freezes when sending to FB
That's it.anon1937793 likes this.02-14-11 12:43 PMLike 1 - So after using OS 6 for about a month, I honestly think I can say I like 5 better and so am going to switch back to it for now. I tried downgrading to OS5 for awhile -- about 10 minutes to exact -- but was missing the great features and overall smoothness of OS6 and therefore went back to the upgrade.
There have been one or two apps that act a little glitchy on OS6 but the problems are very minor and don't justify me going back again.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com02-15-11 01:37 AMLike 0 - I've officially been running 5.0.0.1014 since sunday. Its really nice. Miss certain features but for me here in canada using TELUS my phone runs great. I don't have many issues. The main issue I had with os6 was video playing......it got so laggy at times playing mp4's now on 5.0 the movies play like they should. I don't think I will ever go back to OS 6. For me os 6 runs better on devices with more memory( my 2 cents).
Edit : I also hated os 6 for closing my windows when I was on heavy sites, I don't mind using bolt on 5.0 or the native browser.....I'm use to it....use to rock the 8703E back in the day!

02-15-11 03:06 AMLike 0 - To be honest, there is no OS the best as it all depends on what you really like. For me definitely going for OS 6. OS5 is nice but I seen OS 6 going a long way now and love the new os and hybrids coming out. For me OS 6 gives me flexsibility and customization which OS 5 can't provide me.

- Yay, how I've missed my OS5 Bold - back together at last!
With 2 days on OS6 and 2 full battery charges and getting utterly lost in the new menus, sub menus and sub sub menus for various settings, I decided to go back to OS5. Call me old fashioned but I'll stick to OS5 for as long as I can.
I fancied the pants off my 9700 when I got it and I still do, I think it's a killer combination and that the hardware and OS5 work together very well. It's a sort of 'does what it says on the tin' and a pretty much no-nonsense clear cut setup which is difficult to get lost in, for example, I love the clarity of 'Options' as the only place you need to go to get all the parameters and settings etc. Clean and simple, very unlike OS6.
What I don't like in OS6 is that it's done a bit of a 'Windows', the look and feel is a bit wishy washy, a bit softer and more complicated - pointless eye candy in many cases. Plus I hate the wallpapers it comes with, making it a hassle to try & find something less offensive. Similar to good old solid reliable Nokia phones then they turned into nebulous Symbian phones, becoming bland in my opinion. 6 seems like just a variant of what's out there on the market already in smart phones.
Was hoping it would be a more honed and sleeker 5 but there's loads of things I can't do the way I want them to work (which are perfect on 5); having said that there are definitely some good moves in 6...
Still, I went from 97Mb available with 5 to 28Mb free on 6 and there's nothing I can really delete to free up some space as I'm not into games or horoscopes or cheap entertainment or whatever. And the battery drained very quickly for just my average use!
I gave it a shot and pored over it determined to like it and see it as a positive change but I just got such a huge relief when I went back to 5! Couldn't stick it any longer. And I'm chuffed to bits that the downgrade process was smooth, with only 2 minor glitches (calendar wiped - easily synced, and BrickBreaker is, err, broken now but no big shakes really).
Here's hoping my Bold lasts me a long time with 5. Cheers.02-15-11 08:39 PMLike 0 - 6.0.0.448 and BDHM V6.1 at the moment.
Loved 5...979 and BTHM V4 though.
Have switched back to 5 but didn't last long and now with Foppa giving us his themes on OS6 I am a happy camper.
Of course as soon as the next leak appears, should be soon but been thinking that for 2 weeks, I will give it a go hoping the BBM cursor issue has been resolved.
Just happier with OS6 as for me it is snappier and offers better web, Universal Search. Not to go on about Foppa, he does deserve it, but his themes just give me the overlay that I need for it to be great.....for me I hasten to add.02-16-11 01:00 PMLike 0 - I recently upgraded to OS 6 448 and I love it so far. So smooth, and I'm a heavy user and have had no problems at all. I like OS 5 as well, but I won't be switching back.02-16-11 01:28 PMLike 0
- Well it has to be OS 6 I'm sure no one is gonna say OS 5 is better are they?? AS for which version of OS 6, iv tried them all leaks and official including the recently released .499 and I jvae to say that contray to what people say - do think there is a difference between the offical and leaks, I have only been able to get the GPS workin on official versions .380 and .461 which didn't work on the leaked .380 and .461.
All said iv currently got the .461 official from telsus and think all round that is the best even better than the leaked .499 and ill stick with that until 6.1 comes along
