Vodafone just sent my dad a few BB Torches and he's given one to me. I can get it unlocked easily but my aim has been to get an American phone on a contract. My friend will be taking it out in his name and I'll just give him a few hundred Dollars at a time for the bills.

If I was to get a SIM only plan from AT&T would everything work fine in my unlocked Torch? The plan I like from AT&T is $75 a month for 450 mins, 1000 messages, 2GB data (24 months). I just don't want some things to not work in my BB

If there was a risk I'd just pay the extra $99 and get the Torch handset from AT&T, find some use for my English phone. Don't want any nasty surprises when i find my App World or BBM stop working etc

Any help you guys could provide would be really helpful. I've been using a Curve on Virgin Mobile for the past few months and am definitely ready for a better American handset

The phone should work no problem, the question would be in determining if Vodafone UK uses the same 850 and 1900 3G bands as AT&T.

I think Vodafone UK uses 900 and 1800

Anyone please verify that this is correct.

Thanks for the reply mate, I don't know the answer to that either, will try Googling it or hope for somebody who knows for sure to chime in

    EDIT:
Vodafone UK has their Torch listed as working on the 850/900/1800/1900 bands
BlackBerry Torch - Buy the BlackBerry Torch on Vodafone (under Specifications)

AT&T has the following listed under specifications but I don't know what it means
    UMTS: 2100/1900/850/800 MHz (Bands 1,2,5/6) GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900MHz

If anybody could clarify that would be great

The phone will work. I know of a couple of folks using AT&T branded Torches on Vodafone UK without issues - it's the exact same handset.
The 3G radio in the torch is quad-band and supports the 850/900/1900 bands used in the US in addition to the 2100 band used by Vodafone UK. Incidentally, Vodafone use the 900 (and rarely, 1800) band for 2G services only.
