    Hey friends,

I`m a 8900 owner, but my loved BB is dying slowly...
But thats ok, after over 2 years of "heavy using"...

So I need a "new" phone until the next generation of BB will come out.

After releasing the Bold 9780, the 9700 and 9000 became affortable - at least here in Germany...
And thats where I need your help...
I dont know which BB I shall take till then.

I REALLY LOVE the 9000 formfactor and I would prefer that one...
But I`m not sure, if that would be the right desicion??
Are here some former 9000 owners?

    Compaired 9700 to 9000:

    1. How about the memory? Is it really a big lack? (I only need the Messengers, Facebook - no games etc.)
    2. How about the 2Mpx. camera to 3,2Mpx.? Is the difference really that big??
    3. How about the Internet speed? 5.0 (9700) to 5.0 (9000) - is the 9700 much faster?? Or no difference? I mean almost same specs. and both have 3G.
    4. How about the speed of the webkitbrowser (6.0) to 5.0 Browser? Lightyears difference??
    5. Batterylife?

    Any other things??

Thank you for every post to that!!!

At the end of the day, the choice is yours.

The 9000 was a great device in it's day... but that day has long since passed.

It's now a big old slow phone, with low memory and outdated tech. You'll also be lucky to get a new one as an upgrade, as most carriers have dropped the 9000 now.

IMO the 9700 is a perfect upgrade from the 8900, and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Hi there. I am a 9700 user and I can tell you these:

    1. Memory usage in 9700 is never an issue for me. I have no idea why everyone is complaining about not enough memory (comparing to 9780). Do some shrinking and you should be just fine. Even without shrinking, I have more than enough memory to survive daily.
    2. For me, if you want to compare to 5 megapixel then yes, there will be a huge difference. 2 vs 3.2 mega pixel? Not much difference unless you really like going into detail. Personal preference.
    3. Basic 9700 is marginal. Of course, with the OS 6, speed of browser is faster. Hands down.
    4. Battery life. With a full day of hardcore using, I still make it through the day with at least. Surfing web, replying to forum, BBM etc etc and I will have about 20-30% usage. Normally I will have like 30%+ battery life at night.

One thing about 9700 is it is definitely a work force. It has been great to me and I am seriously loving it. It really depends what you want and basically, go with the one you feel most comfortable with. I am a 9700 user so I could be one sided.

Trust your instinct...and since you are paying the money

First of all, thank you for your replies!!!

I only need that "new phone" till the next generation of BB phones (maybe for a year?) - so I ONLY want to spend the money to come around without having any issues or downgrades to my 8900...

I know from the specs - the 9700 is def. an upgrade.
But the 9000 formfactor is awesome and the 9000 also is about 100Bucks cheaper (which also would be a "+" for it).
But I would be sad, if I spend the money and saw it was a fail for me...

Thats why I wanna know, what your experience are to both phones

    ^^ there's a reason its '100$ cheaper' - it's old.

I've bought them [bb 9000] 'like new' [well, barely used or just great condition] for <100$ shipped to me from the USA. lol

And of course 9700 >>>>> 9000 [and i have both]. I've noticed some of my carriers locally are slowly getting rid of all their 9700 stock.

When the 9000 was out, it was the 'big thing' - literally since its huge and the specs we're better than the more common Curve 83xx at the time.

Once the 9700 came out, the 9000 became common like the 83xx years prior.

It seems like you've already made your decision, but if you think the 'next generation BB's' are only going to be a year away... think again my friend.

If money is a deciding factor, then you'll be better off investing in the 9700 because it'll definitely outlast a 9000.

Try out a 9000 and 9700 instore, and see which one you could live with longterm.
Also try posting this in the 9000 forum, as you'll only get biased replies in here

Id go for the 9700 as other people have said it will last longer. The only better feature the 9000 has over the 9700 is the bigger keyboard.

For what it's worth, there's a huge difference between the two respective cameras, albeit not being that much bigger in resolution.. 2 mp, grainy washed-out looking images vs crisp auto-focused pictures on the 9700. Worlds apart imho

I was using the Bold 9000 up until recently before moving on to the 9700 and i was facing the same concerns. It took me a day to adjust to the new size and I been loving it ever since, especially on OS 6.

9700 definately! I had the 9000 for a month and got sick of the loading clock icon every now and then.

Although the keyboard is awesome, and the screen is bigger. But that tends to decrease the battery life and the big screen is of a low pixel rate so pics and web pages dont look as sharp.

There is no room for comparision here, 9700 FTW

I had the 9000 for 15 months. I loved the large keyboard. However, I did not like the low memory. I had to do a battery pull on a daily basis due to lagging caused by memory leaks. The battery life is also much better on the 9700, and the 9700 is capable of running OS 6. I, too, am waiting for a QNX BlackBerry, and will use my 9700 and save my upgrade until something completely new, not just a refresh, is available.

Just to add: Been thinking about the money you said. I don't know but you really sound very...into 9000. I don't know but if you really like it, why not just got for it?

Yeah the choice might be wrong but, you are using the phone that you like (and not the one that we like) AND you can save a lot of money. At least, that can last you a year or more until you fall in love with another BB right?

plus when you throw os6 onto the 9700 it feels like a brand new phone to play around with
Can't agree much than this. My impression when I loaded the leaked OS was...oh my...new phone!

There is really only one thing I didn't like about the 9000: the memory leak. I'd tried every OS 4.6 - 5.0 out there up until the time I upgraded to a 9700. I would literally lose 25 MB from beginning of day to end, and I had to reboot nightly. When I changed to the 9700, for the first time I knew what it was like not to have a memory leak. Not a slower leak, I mean none/zero/nada.

Sure, I'd like a 9780 or 9800 for the latest/greatest sorta thing, but I am happy with the 9700. I still have ~85 MB free, all the apps I need/want installed (about 50), UMA capability, oh -- and a trackpad. While I did like the keyboard and heft of the 9000, and the precision of the trackball over the trackpad, the trackball was hard to keep clean -- not a factor with trackpads.

    Hmmm.

    Lot of 9700 fans here.

    Personally I have used the 8320, 9000, 9700 and now a Storm 2.

Of them all, the 9000 was the most rewarding.

The tactile feel and use was far superior to all other phones, by a very large margin.

It has a decent big screen, top quality keyboard and does it phone functions very well.

Only a limited memory hinders it, but unless you load countless apps it's not a great concern.

Just load QuickPull and let it sort your phone out every night.

I have another 8320 for work which is ok.

The 9700 is a great phone, but is simply too small.

Go with your heart, 9000 all the way.

I own a Torch and used it for 2 months with no problems and was happy with it. Then I bought a used 9000 and refurbished it to mint and started using that. I would say that you have the same decision concerning the 9700 (fantastic device) and the 9000. I make concessions regarding speed, memory, web browsing, etc. But I absolutely love the 9000 and ending up buying a 2nd used one and restoring it also. I accept the outdated technology and trade it for the incredible keypad and rugged construction. Plus, it just looks so sharp.
Also, my AT&T dropped the 9000 and the 9700 and they are no longer offered. They have a Curve and the Torch (in 3 different colors)

9000's formfactor is great, 9700's is small and efficient, curve's is also great.

I'm satisfied with my 9700 and will use it until it ceases to operate entirely.

9000 is an awesome phone, easy to type on as it is hands down still the best KB around.

Screen size was nice, but like someone else said, quality not as good though as the 9700.

I am picking up a 9000 off CL just to have a Berry as a back up. Always wanted one, even if it is old tech...nostalgia FTW!

I know, that the most of are 9700 "fans" - it's an awesome BB, there is nothing to add.

But I asked here, because I think the most (or many) of you came from the 9000 and so
you do have the experience with both devices.

And I rather believe "real" users, than any product description.

As you saw I'm totally in love with the 9000 formfactor.
But after reading here it sounds like, it's not a real "upgrade" to my dying 8900.
Hmmm... Most thing I'm concerned about that the memory is REALLY that big issue.
I mean, I only need the messengers and fb - but I don't want a device running on the edge.

If some would say: "Nah, save the 100Euros and go for the 9000 - thats all you need that year".
    It would be easier.
But I'm REALLY happy, that a lot of you took part to help me!!!!!!!!!!

I have both the 9000 & 9700. The original Bold was a good solid phone for me, but after getting the 9700, I will never go back to the trackball. The memory on the 9700 is much better. Battery on the 9000 was horrible, would never be able to last a day - on my 9700 I can squeeze out 2 days on 1 charge. Do whats best for you -

    1. Memory sucks on both but if, like with any electronic device, most notably phones, you stay on top of the unnecessary bulk (ie: text messages, browser history, etc) even with a lack of memory what is provided will be sufficient.

    2. Depends on your eye. Sometimes I take photos with my 3.2 on the 9700 that look better than my 10mp point&shoot can manage. Other times their horrible, worse than that of a 1.3 basic phone (can we say blur). I have yet to figure out why, cleaned the lens and made sure of stability, and honestly this just started yesterday, so I'm going to have a look deeper into it.

    3. Who cares, if you depend on your phone for all of your internet needs you need to have your head examined thoroughly!

    4. Webkit can be faster in some instances, in others it's hardly discernible, in either case refer to my answer to number three... seriously man, big woopty doo dah day!

    5. Each will be more than enough, top notch in the smartphone world for sure. I get about 3-5 days, depending on my use during that period.

If you read his original post through you'll see the answer to this, it's all about affordability. With new versions/editions on the verge, the old go down in price, typically. I agree with his decision, I find the 9700 on 5.0 to be FAR superior to the 9780 or 9700 on 6.0, but, admittedly, I severely loathe 6.0!
