Why does it seem like my curve wont wipe correctly?? All it does is stay on the "confirm wipe" screen with the hourglass until I pull the battery out...its very annoying.

try wiping the device using JL_Cmder Javaloader Utility it won't fail you.

How long does it take to wipe or wipe and reload?

It takes about 5 to 10 minutes to wipe using JL_Cmder and about 45 minutes to reinstall an OS. You can add in some addition time to reload apps and data.
