- I've had an 8520 since March of 2010. It's my first Blackberry. I've been fairly happy with it, but have had some issues.
1. I had problems with sound functions. (later learned it was the .681 update). When T-Mobile connected me to RIM to troubleshoot, the tech I spoke to was beyond rude to me. She kept insisting I wipe and reinstall the software, when I kept trying to explain to her that I had done that exact thing...twice...the day before. (I was running out of time, because my grandpa had passed and I needed to have my phone available to me to help my brother get from his post in Alaska to home for the funeral.) After the call I got the automatic email from RIM saying that the customer had refused to follow their troubleshooting attempts. I was livid. Anyway, that phone was exchanged.
2. Now, I have "suddenly" had issues with my Wifi calling. As in, it's the crummiest sounding call in the world! Sounds like a drive-thru. Sometimes I hear it, sometimes the other person hears it. This weekend my phone was "dead" for several seconds at a time. (I couldn't hear anything and neither could the callers.)
3. My "new" replacement battery totally died on me this weekend, even though it had been charged enough to get through the night. I woke up...late...because my alarm never went off. The whole thing shut down, and trying to turn it back on again only gave me a black screen and one, ominous red LED for a while.
4. Last night it did something really odd. The "download" arrow stayed on. For hours on end. I finally restarted my phone and that stopped, but I have no idea what it was doing and why it stayed on continuously for multiple hours.
5. My touchpad is sinking. It is crooked and no longer level all the way across with the phone. The upper left corner is sinking in, and you can actually feel that the surface of the phone is higher than the surface of the touchpad. It has become more and more noticeable over time.
I don't know. I really liked this phone at first because it felt like the first stable phone I'd had since my Motorola Razr. I NEED a stable handset. We don't have a landline anymore, so I need to make sure I'm available to my kiddos at school and my elderly grandma. I need to be able to hear and understand my brother when he has time to give me a call.
Anyone have thoughts? I'm very much starting to feel burnt on BlackBerry.12-13-10 07:23 AMLike 0 - Right, try another battery pull first. If this doesn't work, I may sound like a RIM technician, but reload your OS. Don't reload the one with a sound glitch, and be sure to back up first. If this doesn't fix the Wi-fi problems, I'd check the Wi-fi router, and see if that's reaching the end of it's life. If not, I'd say you could be developing a hardware problem. The battery? Could just be a bad battery, they do get defects, if not, sadly that could be another hardware problem. As for the trackpad, I'd say there's little YOU can do about that, but you could try and get a replacement device.
That's my opinion on what course of action to take.

The replacement battery is the third I've had. I had the best battery life on it so far, but now I'm really nervous about using it.
I will try an OS redo this evening. I've actually used a few OSs since the issue began.
The router seems to be fine. It's got the same traffic it's always had, and is doing fine. My laptop, the Linksys, the Roku, my phone. My phone has priority. None of that has changed. The laptop, Linksys and Roku are all working fine on the router.
Ugh on the touchpad. How frustrating. I dislike switching phones. I'm actually getting frustrated enough that I'm seriously considering just doing an early upgrade to an android. Hard to sit by and watch these issues when my husband is sitting there with his frustratingly stable Galaxy and his accompanying smug grin.12-13-10 03:38 PMLike 0
