Is there a way to turn off the backlight fade out when using certain apps. For instance when i watch videos on the torch, the screen tends to fade out due to "inactivity" but technically the phone is not inactive because i am watching a movie, the same goes for when i am using google maps to navigate.

Is there a workaround for this?

If you go to Options, Display, Screen Display you can set the Backlight timeout.

If you are watching movies that you have uploaded onto your phone you can go into: Media > Menu Button > Media Options > Then tick off "Turn Off Auto Backlighting"

For youtube or any other program I do not think there is a workaround. The Blackberry is set to automatically go into "backlighting mode" if the phone is "un-active" The highest time-limit you can choose is 2 minutes.

In addition to what has been suggested one of these two apps may help:

LeaveItOn (by Forums Moderator Shao) - free trial available

BBLight - free - May not work on OS 6. (OTA Link)

Quicklaunch has a built-in app called Stay Lit, which will keep your back-light on until you relaunch QL.
