Over the past 3 weeks, this same process continues to happen to me

    1) I get a blank "email" from no one (the TO: field is blank). The subject and content of the email is also blank.

    2) I click on it

    3) A few hours later I get a "FWD:" email that shows it was forwarded from my home email account to other home email account. However, when I log into both accounts, they do not show either the received or sent mail.

    4) The blank "email" referenced in #1 above disappears at some point from my blackberry mailbox on my phone as if it never was there

    5) Over the next week, I continue to get "FWD:" emails.

Someone please help. I feel as though I am being attacked. I try to keep changing my password on my email accounts but nothing is working and this continues.

    Thanks,
    Dan

There are some nasty spyware and virus infections that will take over your email and send out random junk to everyone on your contacts list. You might want to install and run spybot or malwarebytes to see what's running around when you're not looking.

+1 for the spybot and malwarebytes. For the last six months there has been a virus that affects email accounts that turns them into spam machines. I've heard it can be reversed but don't know how people are correcting the problem. Best bet is to contact your email provider and let them know the problem and see if they can take care of it at their end.

This has been happening on my BB for the past two weeks on my yahoo account. Everyday or so a blank email appears. First I get an email from one of my contacts yahoo contacts entitled "new cell phone number" and then soon after a blank email appears.

I went to Yahoo! on my PC to see if its sending spam from there, there are no sent messages so I'm assuming its emailing from my BB.

Has anyone figured out how to fix this?

So, the question I have is, why do you keep opening blank e-mails?

If I saw something like that, my first instinct would be to delete it. If it were something that would go to one of my non-BlackBerry accounts, I would open it there, or let the SPAM/Virus filters process it first.

Something else to look at on your BlackBerry is to see if you have any automatic confirmations set up (Messages > Options > Email Settings). It could be that your BlackBerry is automatically sending a confirmation back and they are then using your e-mail address to SPAM people. The messages aren't really coming from your BlackBerry (or your e-mail account), they are just confirming that your account is valid. It is pretty easy to spoof an e-mail account.

If someone gets a message from you that you didn't send. Have them look at the header. See if it has the same header information as a real message from you.

That's right, just blame the victim...

Seriously though, I opened it the first time because I didn't understand what it was. I still don't, but since then I have always deleted them when they appear.

So, are you saying I should disable email confirmations for all my accounts to fix it?

My guess is you'd never known if you didn't have a blackberry. Change your password and your security question asap.

Change password and security question ASAP, you wanna solve the problem not hide it.

Password is not enough, you need to change the security question as well or they'll get your new password.

I disagree that your account has been hacked. There has been an overwhelming amount of spoofing lately on one of my email accounts in particular where I get emails from myself often selling viagra. When my IT manager checked out mail servers and the futher info in the email header turns out the emails did not originate from our mail servers. Spammers have simply got hold of the information that my email account is legit and are spoofing the account. Meaning they are appearing that the email is coming from me when infact they are not.

I haven't done much follow up on it personally, but from what I'm told by my IT staff there is little you can do about stopping the spammers spoofing your account as they are neither using your device to send the spam nor are they using your mail server. They are just making it appear so.
