    Hello,

I just received my new 8800 on Friday. I have been awaiting OS 4.5 to come out and now there seems to be some versions available I would like to update.
The question is... is there any way to backup the current OS thats on my unit as this is a non-branded unit with a generic RIM OS on it. I want to be able to go back to this OS should I have any problems with 4.5

    Thanks

All you need to do if you want to keep the option of going back to your old OS is to keep the downloaded file saved on your computer. If you update OSes you still need to uninstall your old OS, but you can keep the download on your computer. You're also going to want to make sure you use desktop manager to backup your contacts and everything else on your phone. And if you have any third party applications, you'll want to back those up as well. Here are some links:

    Hope this helps!

You can't back up your OS, but you can back up all your Data and if you ever want to go back to an earlier OS then you can just install it and 'downgrade' using DM (Desktop Manager).

Thanks for the advice!!! Now should I be able to find the "generic" RIM OS's somewhere so I can download that and go back to the version I have now (4.2.1.62)?

    Thanks again!
