Options --> about gives you the OS

as for the old email, I wonder if they didn't release the pin from the other account but we'll find out.

go to options --> security options --> security wipe and check the option for emails, contacts, etc

then add your email addresses to the bis

You'll have to manually erase their email address from the Service Books. I had this issue to with my phone when I got it from someone off Craigslist. A security wipe doesn't do any good, since that's what I did first upon buying the phone but it still kept the email on my phone and kept sending me their emails.

Assuming you are still on OS 5.0:

Options > Advanced Options > Service Book

Delete any service books which have your personal email address next to it.

What you mean enter your info?

In the service books, delete the any email address you see associated with the previous owner.

Just go to setup email add account then enter your username and password.

Are you typing your user name? Did you create one?
You can also hook it up to your computer and use desktop manager to delete the service books and email settings, that would do the trick without deleting everything.
If you want to do that and don't know how (and don't feel like googling it ) I can post some pics showing you how.

I know what you went through, this happened on a refurbished Tour I bought from Sprint. Very frustrating, glad you got it all worked out!

Good reminder to those of you that before you sell your BB make sure you release
    the PIN from your BIS
, otherwise the person who buys it from you can still receive
    your emails.
