    Hi

I used to have a Nokia E71. Text message character limit is 160 letters. I was wondering. The text message in BB9700 is showing 70 / 1 of 6. Does it mean that if I sent more than 70 characters each message than I will get charge more than one text message?

    Thx

160 characters = a single text message, so yes you're right that sending more that 160 characters would send the message as multiple texts. Every 160 characters will be charged as a single text unit.

But why on the top right corner of the text message in my BB9700 showing 70 / 1 of 6? does it mean each text message in BB9700 only allows 70 character?

    Thx

This means that you have currently got 70 characters left, for it to count as one sms. If you continue typing it will show as 2 of 6.

    160 1/6

The number on the left indicates how many characters you have left in 1 text message.

If the countdown reaches 0 and you continue typing the text message then your message will continue in a second text message. You will then notice that the number on the left (160) will begin the character countdown again and the numbers on the right will now display 2/6. If that counter reaches 0 again and you keep on writing you will start your 3rd text 3/6 and so on.

You can send a total of 6 text messages in one shot (6/6). Pending on the phone receiving it, the person will view it as one message on their device or they will receive 6 seperate messages. Either way, it will be billed as 6 messages or however many you send out.

Under text messages, go to options and change data coding to 7 bit. You will now have 160 characters per SMS as opposed to 70.
